A leading commercial cleaning service provider headquartered in Bethesda, MD, is on the lookout for a Controller. This critical role involves collaboration with the Vice President of Finance to refine, implement, and uphold accounting standards and policies across the organization. The Controller will lead the accounting department, overseeing all aspects of performance management, staff development, and recruitment.
Responsibilities
Partner with the VP of Finance to guide and supervise the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, ensuring adherence to established accounting practices and timely completion of responsibilities.
Engage actively with the HR department to recruit and train accounting personnel, ensuring the team is well-equipped and proficient in their roles.
Conduct continuous reviews of accounting procedures and policies, recommending enhancements to foster efficiency and compliance.
Utilize project management tools to oversee accounting projects effectively, maintaining clear and open lines of communication throughout the department.
Focus on staff development, preparing individuals for future leadership roles and career progression.
Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal tax legislations, including payroll and sales and use taxes.
Produce various managerial reports, assist in the budgeting process, and support financial reporting at month-end, quarter-end, and year-end.
Lead the selection and implementation of new accounting software to optimize departmental efficiency.
Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial real estate management, with a proven track record in a Controller capacity.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance, with CPA certification mandatory.
Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and with various departments.
Expertise in Excel and Microsoft Office, with a strong aptitude for learning new accounting software.
Excellent decision-making abilities, adaptable to changes, and equipped with outstanding communication skills.
