Position Summary

Tje BraeBurn Country Club Controller coordinates all aspects of finance, accounting, information technology, and human resource functions for the Club. The Controller is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all finance-related activities. The Controller will collaborate with the the General Manager, Board of Directors and the Finance Committee.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain the financial records and manage financial transactions of the Club including, but not limited to, banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and benefits and fixed assets.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including variance analysis and projections, for the General Manager and the Finance Committee.
  • Communicate financial results, conduct research and be prepared to offer preliminary explanations and appropriate countermeasures.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, supporting schedules, and disclosures and coordinate the annual audit.
  • Forecast and manage cash flow.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to prepare the annual budget; monitor the budget and provide timely reports.
  • Strive to enhance the member experience in any aspect of billing, charges, or financial interaction with the Club stockholders.
  • Oversee the employer 401k plan.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and payroll taxes are paid timely.
  • Hire, mentor, train, develop and retain accounting staff.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Provide a positive work environment; counsel employees as appropriate and demonstrate a professional approach to management.
  • Energize the team and build a solid financial culture driven to excellence with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Serve as coach and mentor, and lead by example.
  • Oversee the Information Technology department, which is outsourced through a third-party vendor.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and forecast replacements and replacement costs.
  • Manage service disruption mitigation.
  • Stay current on the newest technology and make recommendations for implementation.
  • Evaluate and oversee risk management and insurance issues.
  • Lead and manage technology investments, policies, and contract vendors.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university with a concentration in Finance or Accounting. 10+ years of professional finance/accounting experience with a minimum of 3+ years at a Controller/Staff Accountant level and current accounting certifications. Nonprofit experience is a plus.

  • Has an “executive presence” and excellent presentation skills. Proficiency in information technology for finance and accounting in the hospitality industry
  • Experience with construction and renovation projects and reporting of both is desired.
  • Experience with administration of 401k and defined contribution plans.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • Ability to extract relevant inputs from key individuals across varied functions and experience levels to ensure well-informed forecast and analysis and anticipate key sensitivities.
  • Excellent financial reporting and accounting skills, including financial disclosures.
  • Excellent financial forecasting skills, including probability analysis.

Salary And Benefits

Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The club offers an excellent bonus and benefits package, including association membership and the ability to work from home 1-2 days per week.

About Braeburn Country Club

BraeBurn Country Club is located 14 miles southwest of downtown Houston. The Club has a rich history built on the game of a lifetime. Jimmy Demaret, one among many who are an important part of the BraeBurn story, was a three-time Masters champion and our Head Golf Professional from 1936-1941. The Club was originally founded in 1926 as Colonial Country Club; BraeBurn Country Club was officially established in 1931.

Members stay active with golf, pool, fitness and racquet amenities at BraeBurn. Members enjoy the cabanas by our resort-style swimming pool, complete with a poolside café. The Club has two recently built tennis courts. Personal training is available at the fitness center, and the Club offers full message therapy. Kids enjoy junior golf camps and summer camps that offer a wide range of activities to exercise their mind and body, and we offer KidsKove, child care during Club activities. Golf remains at the center of all we do, however BBCC has become a family Club with activities for all ages.
