Seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented individual to work in the Accounting department of the New York office of a multinational financial services group based out of Spain.



Summary of Responsibilities:

The Controller manages the accounting and regulatory functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures, preparing financial reports and reviewing regulatory reports.



List Major/Essential Job Duties:

To ensure that accounting functions are monitored, controlled and operating efficiently, through the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining all Finance related Manuals, including the Finance Manuals and Chart of Accounts.
  • Ensures that the month-end and year-end closings are efficiently organized, and that financial data is accurate for the reporting period.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Analyze and investigate significant variances on the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss.
  • Cost Control through review of expense reporting and invoice processing.
  • Compile information required for tax returns.
  • Ensures protection and maintenance of Fixed Assets.
  • Interacts with all departments for any technical issues that may have an impact on books (new FASB pronouncements, GAAP, IFRS and Bank of Spain accounting requirements).
  • Interact with banking regulators (FRB, DFS, etc), internal and external auditors.
  • Review and sign-off on monthly reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support the FP&A team as needed during the annual budgeting process.

Skills, knowledge, abilities/Competencies

To perform the minimum requirements of this position, the Controller must:

  • Have 15 years of experience in accounting roles
  • CPA highly preferred
  • Possess a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in accounting
  • Possess knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP and IFRS), standard concepts, practices and procedures and have the ability to understand and solve complex accounting issues
  • Must have experience in the banking industry; knowledge of financial reporting in foreign banks is an important plus
  • Have the ability to lead and supervise the staff in the department
  • Be highly proficient in Excel and learn how to use all Bank systems that impact the accounting function (Knowledgeable of the Accounting Information Systems MIDAS preferably)
  • Be well organized and detailed oriented

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $150,000 to $190,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
