Continuous Improvement Engineer

Position Summary

Job Summary

The Continuous Improvement(CI) Engineer is responsible for developing solutions to improve manufacturing operations. These solutions may apply new technology, implement cost reductions, implement process or material flow improvements, or improve quality or safety. The CI Engineer will collaborate with the machine operators and setup persons to extract and apply their knowledge of the manufacturing process to bring about improvement.

Essential Functions

  • Drive initiatives and/or projects that coincide with the biggest opportunities at the Danboro plant.
  • Direct and facilitate the ongoing lean improvement process through the use of techniques such as SMED, Kaizan,and 5S.
  • Create standardization in our processes that align with best practices in safety, cost, and efficiency.
  • Create CAD drawings for tools/fixtures/parts for improvement projects.
  • Deploy new equipment and integrate into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Modernize our tools, processes, and practices to current day technology and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with all functional areas on process changes from idea conception to implementation.
  • Inform stakeholders on roadblocks, feedback and progress regularly to ensure project progression is efficiently managed.
  • Ensure the appropriate safety and ergonomic processes and methods are being utilized.
  • Create Project Plans detailing course of action and establishing project goals.
  • Work as an effective member of a team to brainstorm problems and work collectively towards process improvements.
  • Utilize existing knowledge of manufacturing techniques and best practices to research and propose manufacturing process improvements.
  • Work with sensors for data collection along with the analysis of the data.
  • Periodically audits the implemented solutions to verify that the solution has been effective and sustained. Reports results to management.
  • Facilitate responses to internal and external corrective actions.

Other Duties

  • Assist in development of new suppliers.
  • Assist Danboro plant in promoting an atmosphere that fosters employee involvement and teamwork.
  • Assists other PennEngineering plants with continuous improvement projects as needed.

Requirements

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading continuous improvement efforts in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Proficient with CAD software
  • Proficient working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point & Word).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of problem solving and statistical techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Good vision in order to acceptably read mechanical inspection instruments and see visual defects in small fastener parts.
  • Manual dexterity in order to handle small parts (less than ½” in size) while evaluating them.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment
