The Continuous Improvement Engineer is primarily responsible for leading the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects to improve productivity, reduce waste and deliver cost savings. Using the ABC Production System, this position will support the development of a lean mindset among all employees, thus, improving efficiencies in our operations through continuous improvement and standardized processes. Implement lean continuous improvement manufacturing processes for new products and improve systems for existing customers. Work with all departments and Managers to define the scope of improvement opportunities. All duties are carried out in the spirit of promoting a co-operative work environment where fairness, equity and non-discriminatory practices are the standard.
Responsibilities-
- Work with employees to identify and develop continuous improvement strategies that will drive operational excellence, increased capacity, and cost reductions
- Conduct assessments of manufacturing operations to provide focused improvement opportunities to increase production efficiencies, eliminate waste, reduce inventory, reduce lead times, increase quality and increase due date performance.
- Lead Kaizen events with a cross functional team that will target a specific area or process to eliminate waste and drives improvement. These projects could include 5S improvement, standard work, setup reduction, value stream mapping exercises, TPM implementation, visual standards.
- Utilize value stream mapping to identify and eliminate waste
- Assist in the development and implementation of site-specific process improvement goals and targets. These targets will be laid out by the CI manager that will drive the goal of meeting the CI target.
- Assist CI Manager in completing annual reports and audit worksheets
- Coordinates CI tools, techniques, and information; may respond to questions from operators, Team leaders, CI champions, managers and customers.
- Assist in cost reduction proposals for yearly cost reduction targets.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Engineer or equivalent diploma (Industrial Engineering would be preferred)
- 2-3 years’ experience in the automotive/manufacturing industry. Knowledge of design, development, Value Stream Mapping, and manufacturing processes. Motion Analysis and Time study experience a plus.
- Good understanding and extensive exposure to lean principles
- Experience in coaching and training of lean principles and continuous process improvement
- Ability to develop credibility with employees and management
- Strong time management, multi-tasking and all round communication skills
- A self-starter who is productive, takes initiative and seeks opportunities for improvement
- An enthusiastic and energetic promoter of our lean philosophy
