Construction Safety Director

Mark Young Construction is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable individual to serve as Safety Director. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing company-wide safety strategies, programs, and initiatives to ensure a safe and secure working environment across all our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety, risk management, and developing cultural influence, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and people skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute a strategic plan to enhance safety performance and minimize risks across the organization. Align safety objectives with the company’s overall goals and objectives
  • Design and implement standardized safety policies and procedures that comply with relevant laws, regulations, industry best practices and client requirements. Ensure these policies are effectively communicated and consistently followed throughout the organization.
  • Develop and implement robust safety metrics and data tracking systems to monitor safety performance and identify areas for improvement through gap analysis or other measures. Regularly analyze safety data to identify trends, potential hazards, and emerging risks
  • Influence company leaders and provide guidance and support to field safety personnel. Foster a culture of integrated safety through promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement at all levels
  • Develop Pre-Construction Site Safety Planning (SSP). Execute the planning and implementation of MYC and subcontractor site specific safety planning and perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure appropriate execution of the planning, compliance with safety regulations and company standards as well as client specific requirements
  • Creation of a safety training delivery system aimed at specific competencies to ensure a high level of skill is continually built within our people at all levels.
  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including field and office operations, human resources, estimating, pre-construction and financial teams. Work collaboratively to ensure safety considerations are integrated into business processes and decision-making
  • Communicate and coordinate with all levels of MYC and subcontractor personnel in the delivery and implementation of MYC safety culture, safety compliance and expectations of project site conditions to promote the safety and wellbeing of all personnel on MYC project sites
  • Represents MYC in community or industry safety groups and programs
  • Travel to various project sites as needed
  • Conduct project site safety audits in conjunction with field safety specialists and project leadership and communicate findings verbally as well as providing written reports with established timelines for corrections of unsatisfactory items

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience with construction safety management
  • Current OSHA 500 certification
  • Spanish and English fluency a plus
  • CHST, ASP, CSP or other recognized construction safety certifications preferred
  • Construction background and knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 preferred
  • Ability to travel outside the Colorado front range 10% of the time
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts (not concurrently).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clear driving record
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software such as Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint a plus, as well as web-based safety program applications

  • Salary: $110,000 - $135,000 per year (depending on experience) plus company vehicle or vehicle allowance
