The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is the research division of the company. ATG’s mission is to look ahead, deliver insights, and innovate technological solutions that will fuel Dolby’s continued growth. What is the Research Internship Program?

Discover an engaging summer opportunity within our Advanced Technology Group, offering a variety of intern research positions tailored for postgraduate students. Immerse yourself in captivating projects situated in what we call "greenfield research areas." These are the unexplored areas of inquiry, where novelty thrives and conventionality takes a back seat.

As a Research Intern at Dolby, your ideas contribute to the foundation of upcoming Dolby technology. Leverage the resources and expertise of Dolby's researchers to bring your projects to fruition. Embrace the challenge of undertaking open-ended and investigative projects, which might veer away from the anticipated outcomes of a typical internship.

What are we looking for in candidates?

Along with your solid technical skills, candidates should demonstrate problem-solving and analytical abilities, good communication and collaboration skills, a curiosity for how and why things work as they do, and a passion for audio, video, movies, music, or game technology. You have a desire to bring in new ideas and are open to learning from others and working in a team.

Summary of Position:

For the Game/Realtime Engines for Multimodal, Audio and Image Research interns we are looking for postgraduate students doing entertainment or serious game development projects, or using game/realtime engines to explore, prototype experiences and perform experiments involving audio, video, haptics, sensors (EEG, GSR, eyetrackers, etc) to understand new vectors of interactivity, immersion and multimodal perception for entertainment, education, training and wellbeing.

We are looking for strong candidates with an interest in one or more of the following areas:

  • Game engine libraries implementing physics effects, re-lighting algorithms etc.
  • Rendering pipelines
  • Scene understanding and representation, including Differentiable renderers
  • Generative AI for AR, VR and XR
  • Human sensing for entertainment applications (human computer interfaces, affective computing, physiological data measurement and analysis, etc.)
  • Computational neuroscience and human perception
  • Immersive experiences and personalization

Requirements:

  • Higher degree student PhD candidatesor degree with research experience, working towards a master’s/Ph.D. degree in computer vision, computer graphics, computational photography, Artificial Intelligence, Neuroscience, or related field.
  • Proven ability to use game engines as a platform for implementing experiments, prototyping new experiences, or developing novel training, wellbeing and entertainment experiences
  • Experience as a researcher, including internships, full-time, or at a lab.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB, etc.).

Highly Desired Experience in one of the following:

  • Familiarity with 3D rendering pipelines and libraries
  • View synthesis with real time constraints
  • Shader programming on Nvidia or Apple hardware
  • Creating demos and prototypes for research applications.
  • Writing technical reports and/or publications.
  • First-author publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals.We recognize that applying to internships can be a daunting process, especially if you have not had any previous internships, or if this is a new field of interest to you. Even if you do not have previous professional experience to meet the listed qualifications, we will consider relevant project, volunteer, and extracurricular experiences, and we encourage you to include them on your resume and apply. ELIGIBILITY Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Audio Production, Sound Design, Creative Media Production, Recording, Mixing, Media and Film, or related field, or demonstrates equivalent experience; recent grads who are within 6 months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 3 months between September 2024 – December 2024. Start date for the internship is as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible)

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $44-57/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific hourly range and perks and benefits for your location during the hiring process.
