COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTOR

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Butler County Community College (BC3) is currently accepting applications for a nine-month full-time tenure track Computer Science Programming Instructor in the Business and Information Technology Division. The instructor will begin in the Fall 2024 semester and will teach primarily at BC3 Main Campus. Courses may also be assigned at other locations for day or evening assignments to meet required credit load, excluding Brockway.

Reporting to the Dean of Business and Information Technology, the Computer Science Programming Instructor is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses, such as, Introduction to Computer Programming, Object Oriented Programming, and Data Structures and Algorithms, using modern programming languages. This position may also involve teaching other computer-related courses, including web programming, networking, and/or hardware courses. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising students enrolled in the Computer Science programs and practicums, advising students, advancing the Information Technology (IT) curriculum, serving on college committees, assisting with accreditation and assessment activities; and promoting student retention. This position will require an on-going commitment to maintaining currency in the area of programming languages, techniques, and software packages.

Required

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science Information Systems or Information Technology and agreement to achieve a Master's Degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) or agreed upon related Computer Science (CS) field within five (5) years of being hired; and 18 credit hours of advanced (graduate-level) coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology from an accredited institution; and Evidence of excellence in teaching; and/or Professional Employment as a programmer;
  • Two years teaching experience;
  • Evidence of excellence in oral and written communication skills; and
  • Proficiency in various teaching modalities, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and remote delivery.

Preferred

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field;
  • Experience with web-based course creation and delivery;
  • Community college teaching experience;
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment; and
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters

The lesson topic will be provided after the candidate’s interview is confirmed. Salary ($46,000 - $49,000) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
