Compliance Specialist - Remote Opportunity

Position Reports To: SVP, Chief Compliance Officer

Responsible for providing support to the Office of Compliance by assisting in on-boarding new facilities to the Surgery

Partners Compliance Program, monitoring corporate exclusion databases, monitoring the Surgery Partners Action Line,

monitoring other Open Lines of Communication pathways, and offering routine compliance guidance to managed

facilities. Performs compliance related research, conducts and documents interviews, performs and documents audit

test work, completes action items associated with project plans and analyzes and presents oral and written conclusions

to department and organization management. Educates and assists Surgery Partners employees and management in

applying and improving compliance and internal controls.

Essential Responsibilities

Compliance Program Support

  • Maintains legal and regulatory compliance by researching and communicating requirements and obtaining approvals.
  • Regulatory & legislative monitoring and analysis preparation. Tracking of regulations and legislation, preparing impacts analysis, and supporting implementation and communication efforts both internally and externally.
  • Keeps other departments abreast of requirements by researching regulatory information and by writing and communicating guidelines.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Map and remediate corporate and regulatory risk. Develop and update reporting for management on trends, risks, and compliance metrics.
  • Maintains rapport with regulatory personnel by arranging continuing contacts and resolving concerns.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Issue Tracking

  • Participates in Compliance Operations Meetings and assists with the tracking and resolution of compliance issues that affect operations.
  • Maintain logs of inquiries and track research and disposition of compliance issues raised by senior management, employees, business partners and external auditors.

Collaboration / Leadership

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
  • Provide support to joint projects with other Compliance audit staff.
  • Collaborates with operational department managers to resolve compliance or regulatory concerns.
  • Communicate regularly with internal departments to ensure audit deliverables and remediation responses are submitted timely.
  • Acts as a resource for compliance, coding, charge capture and third-party reimbursement regulations and rules.
  • Provides advisory assistance regarding billing compliance matters.
  • Formulate, affect, interpret, and implement compliance policies and procedures as needed.

Other

  • Assist the Chief Compliance Officer in risk analysis, planning, auditing and program development for compliance activities throughout Surgery Partners
  • Formulate, affect, interpret, and implement compliance policies and procedures as needed.
  • Analyze compliance and internal process risks for all Surgery Partners Operational areas.
  • Travel may be required periodically with this position but is not expected to exceed 25% of time now or in the immediate future.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Health Information Management, Health Administration or similar degree.
  • Equivalent work experience may substitute education requirements.
  • Paralegal experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 2-4 years previous healthcare experience, preferably with demonstrated skill in compliance auditing.
  • Prefer candidate with at least two years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: Accounting/Auditing, Medical Coding, Risk Planning/Compliance, or Healthcare Billing.
  • Certification as CHC, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P or willingness to become certified preferred but not required.
