About The Role
Ethos is seeking an experienced and energetic Compliance Director to join our Compliance department as a senior leader. This person will work proactively with internal teams to identify risks, both emerging and present, and then help to develop and drive practical solutions. You will have a broad understanding of insurance operations and experience in a variety of compliance roles.You will be expected to drive thought leadership on Compliance matters across Ethos and specifically will act as thought leader for Sales Practice & Conduct risk.
Sales Practice & Conduct risk will include: oversight of Ad & Marketing material review; oversight of TPA licensing and renewals; strategic leadership on insurance forms and filing and execution oversight; new product support; oversight of the customer sales experience, oversight of payments processing, oversight of the customer portal, oversight of agent supervision, and oversight of fraud detection. This role requires strategic oversight across functions, departments, and products to ensure end-to-end compliance for processes. Further, as a director, you will provide general regulatory compliance guidance to the organization and help to lead our response to Market Conduct exams, Internal Audits, and other regulatory queries.
As a senior leader for the Compliance function, you will help to drive the full implementation of a Compliance Risk Management program which complies with DOJ expectations of corporate compliance functions. Risk identification, assessment, testing, and reporting is a key part of this role. Senior business leader engagement and education on key Compliance risks to drive business understanding is an important aspect of this leadership role.

10+ years of relevant Compliance work experience in the insurance industry
Strategic thinking on proactive compliance risk mitigation
Proactive thought leadership for Compliance broadly and Sales Practice & Conduct risk specifically, within the insurance industry.
Expert on insurance regulatory filings and form requirements across products
Expert in sales practice compliance within the insurance industry
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Persuasive communicator and thought leader
Possess sound and practical business judgment
Strong understanding of Compliance Risk Management
Practical, risk-based approach to Compliance
Intellectual curiosity and willingness to expand knowledge base
Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing business needs
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines
Experience in start-up environment
The US national base salary range for this full-time position is $170,000 - $284,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
