Trusted Mentors is an Indianapolis based 501c3 that recruits, trains, supports and matches volunteer mentors with at risk adults to help more people stay housed and out of prison. The Community Outreach Coordinator is expected recruit volunteers to mentor adults. In order to do this, they will need to be a self-starter, entrepreneurial, able to achieve a high standard of excellence, and to take the initiative to further the mission of Trusted Mentors.
This person is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with potential volunteer mentors. This job requires seeking and finding opportunities to interface with the public frequently and educate them on adult mentoring. You will be joining a dedicated and engaging team working to establish personal connections that can change lives.
Position Description:
Mentor Recruitment - External - 60%
Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers for our organization
Create and maintain relationships with a variety of potential volunteer sources
Conduct outreach efforts to attract individuals interested in volunteering
Engage potential volunteers at public events that you or others have created
Inform the public about Trusted Mentors and our mission of adult mentoring for at risk adults in a variety of settings
Gather data from potential volunteer mentors to add to our database to build a pipeline that can be converted
Attend networking events to develop contacts and promote Trusted Mentors
Mentor Recruitment – External - Special Projects – 15%
Create and develop alternative recruitment methods to appeal to diverse audiences
Block parties
Fellowship gatherings
And more
Develop ways to gather feedback from potential mentors about their training and vetting experience
Assist in the improvement of training methods based on feedback gathered
Mentor Recruitment - Internal – 15%
Ensure all mentor candidate inquiries are funneled into Candidate Inquiry Process
Convert potential volunteer mentors through a variety of communication methods; primarily phone calls.
Mentor Reporting - Database - 10%
Enter information consistently and in a timely manner into Salesforce
Maintain mentor information in Salesforce as required
Skills necessary:
College Degree preferred but not mandatory (equivalent skills will be considered).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with a diverse range of individuals.
Strong organizational and follow-up skills. Ability to engage volunteers to be successful mentors over a year’s time.
Additionally, being highly organized and detail-oriented will help you maintain accurate records and help ensure the smooth functioning of the program.
Working with individuals who have experienced jail, prison, homelessness, addictions, mental health and poverty issues preferred. Prior lived experience with these conditions a plus.
Ability to take on more responsibility as the organization grows is desired.
Solid experience with email, calendars, Word, and Excel required. PowerPoint and social networking is a plus.
Ability to use computer applications such as CRM. Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
Personal transportation is a necessity as you will be recruiting off-site.
