Under the direction of the HR and Communications Director, the Communications Manager will lead the development and implementation of effective communication strategies to ensure smooth and efficient flow of information within the site. This role will play a crucial part in maintaining transparent and consistent communication channels, both internally and externally, to promote collaboration, engagement, and alignment with the company's goals.

As a Communications Manager, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Developing and executing brand strategy and internal communication plans to keep employees informed and engaged.
  • Leading a team of one employee, this position will provide the strategic communications direction and counsel to the site leader and the site leadership teams to build and protect BASF’s brand and reputation across the region, while aligning to Corporate Communications goals and objectives.
  • Being responsible for effective stakeholder engagement, which will involves developing communication strategies that effectively engage these stakeholders, addressing their concerns, and promoting collaboration and mutual understanding. Also, ensuring that external affairs (government affairs and community relations) efforts are aligned and coordinated to support BASF in the region.
  • Developing, coordinating and directing crisis communications strategy and response for the Freeeport site as well as serve as national spokesperson for BASF in rotation with senior communications representatives being on call for any crises or issues arising. Also, providing strategic public affairs and issues management counsel on key issues impacting manufacturing sites to protect BASF’s license to operate and/or preserve BASF’s reputation. This involves, serving on cross-functional/BU, regional teams, trade associations on public affairs strategy for key issues facing U.S. manufacturing.
  • Providing expertise for crisis and issues management (including litigation, regulations, etc) and assistance to in-house attorneys on legal matters involving significant public or community issues or media outreach.
  • Leading creation of high-quality content for various communication channels, including written materials, presentations, and multimedia content. The communication manager will ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with the company's brand guidelines. This may involve conducting research, interviewing subject matter experts, and collaborating with other departments to gather relevant information.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies and initiatives is required. This includes analyzing engagement metrics, conducting surveys or feedback sessions, and using data-driven insights to make informed decisions and improve communication efforts.
  • Staying updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in communication and the manufacturing industry. The communication manager will be required to attend industry conferences, participate in professional development activities, and networking with peers to ensure continuous enhancement of knowledge and skills.

If you have...

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Business Administration, Journalism, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive professional Communications or related experience, preferably in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in internal and external communication, including detailed communication plan development and execution.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. As well as strong coaching, facilitation, conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written), interact, and influence with all levels including production technicians, staff associates, managers, and leaders.
  • Demonstrated strong internal and external customer service focus to build and maintain positive working relationships.
