Communications Intern (Fall Semester 2024)

The Southern Environmental Law Center is accepting applications for a Communications Intern for Fall 2024 focused on environmental justice and land use and transportation. This intern will work closely with our program communications team assisting with day-to-day needs including writing social media and website content, event planning and coordination, and media coordination. The intern will work with SELC’s Senior Communications Manager based in Charlottesville to execute communications plans impacting SELC’s regional Environmental Justice initiative and Land & Community program.


This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful, nationally recognized organization that is effectively addressing some of the most pressing and challenging environmental issues throughout the South and the nation. This intern will work in our Charlottesville, Virginia, office with the opportunity for occasional remote work. This is a 10 to 12-week, part-time, paid internship.


Responsibilities:

  • Draft social content and coordinate approvals.
  • Draft other materials such as website articles and press materials.
  • Monitor earned media.
  • Assist in coordinating projects using Monday.com, a project management system.
  • Assist with in-person and virtual outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Assist with day-to-day administrative needs.


Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and be a clear communicator.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Able to receive and implement feedback and provide feedback.
  • Interest in environmental communications.
  • Interest in urban planning, environmental justice, or transportation.
  • Experience with project management systems and content management systems.

Internship details:

  • Duration: 10-12 weeks
  • Hours: 16 – 24 hours per week
  • Timeframe: Fall Semester 2024 (Flexible between mid-late August – December)
  • Compensation: $15.00/hour
  • Location: SELC Virginia Office – 120 Garrett Street, Suite 400, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
