Communications Coordinator

If you’re searching for something more than just a job, something akin to a calling, then consider the challenge and opportunity of being a member of Johnson County Government!  The Communication Coordinator will assess, plan, implement and evaluate internal and external communications and plan and support community relations and outreach initiatives. Initial review of applications will begin on July 15, 2024.

 

Job Duties includes:

  • Serves as the mental health department's contact for the county's website; ensures department’s website page content is fresh and frequently updated; monitors website analytics; assists in design of intranet site and maintains content support for the intranet; serves as a backup admin on official departmental social media accounts; researches and collaborates on appropriate social media posts across active social media accounts; maintains a calendar of timely/appropriate/relevant content for posting on social media; responds to questions/comments on social media; works with leadership to provide accurate and appropriate responses to difficult questions.
  • Executes and implements outreach activities as directed by department leadership; researches and suggests other innovative ways to engage the community in the support of the department initiatives; responds to public inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner. 
  • Collaborates with the county's communications team for communications matters, to include media requests, non-routine social media interactions, detailed graphic design, multimedia and non-routine public communication; provides requested information to media with approval of leadership; works with county communications to write and distribute news releases, web stories, articles and marketing materials; prepares basic talking points for department related interviews.
  • Creates department and external monthly newsletters, including planning, coordinating content from other writers, writing, editing and performing layout and design work; collaborates with IT staff on design/organization for SharePoint.
  • Creates and produces basic graphics and communications materials and distributes county-branded flyers, brochures and hand-outs; responds to requests for graphic elements; creates branded assets for promotional materials for department use.

 

 

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, communications, Marketing or relevant field of study and one year of experience in journalism, corporate or organizational marketing, communications or public relations, including experience using software to write copy and create graphic elements for websites and social media or other relevant experience; drivers' license and acceptable driving record are required.

 

Experience can substitute for education.  Education can substitute for experience.

 

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
