Fairstead seeks a Communications Associate to join our Public Affairs team. The ideal candidate is one that excels in an entrepreneurial, dynamic environment that celebrates individual initiative and contributions. The Public Affairs team works across all departments internally, exposing the candidate to all aspects of Fairstead’s vertically integrated business platform. Successful candidates will be both “doers” and “strategic thinkers,” in addition to being “collaborators” and “independent contributors.”


Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing & communications strategy at both the property and corporate levels.
  • Draft, schedule, and execute high-quality content for various channels, including press releases, media pitches, resident newsletters, social media (LinkedIn and Instagram), and posts on the company website.
  • Respond to incoming press, elected, and other stakeholder inquiries and proactively manage Fairstead’s external reputation.
  • Support internal executive communications and partner with Human Resources on other initiatives requiring a strong corporate voice.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for external award recognition and for team members to speak at industry events. Assist in preparing presentation materials and submissions, as well as coordinating logistics as needed.
  • Support the oversight of external public relations and government affairs contractors to maximize value.
  • Maintain, update and catalog brand assets and ensure adherence to brand guidelines across all communication channels.
  • Assist with other internal and external communications and public affairs projects and provide administrative support as needed.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public affairs, preferably in an affordable housing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in collaborating with diverse stakeholders ranging from residents, to elected officials, to investors.
  • Team oriented mindset and ability to work well across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and at a high level.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies, providing strong judgment and guidance for internal decision making.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, to support property milestones or corporate public affairs goals.
  • Ability to manage third-party contractors, such as public affairs firms.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a passion for making a positive impact in communities.

Our goal is to ensure competitive total compensation that is commensurate with experience, location, and other market benchmarks. NYC Pay Range: $70,000 - $115,000
