Position Description
Working under the Communications Director, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for managing critical areas of AAPI New Jersey’s media and communications operations. We are looking for a creative, organized self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills who can collaborate effectively with a diverse range of people. Primary Responsibilities
Working under the Communications Director, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for managing critical areas of AAPI New Jersey’s media and communications operations. Reports to: AAPI New Jersey’s Communications Director
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the organization’s social media channels, which includes posting updates, responding to comments and DMs, and managing membership where applicable
- Create content (simple graphics, reels, and copy) for social media posts, digital campaigns, and news updates on the website and email newsletter
- Attend and document occasional community and organization-run events, taking photos and videos and posting them on social media
- Provide organizational support for the planning and development of communications for major community events
- Other special projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Demonstrated respect and sensitivity for all communities and cultures.
- Friendly, warm presence with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Strong project management skills; professional written and verbal skills.
- Ability to navigate and work in a startup environment.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail).
- Proficiency or familiarity with design applications such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
- The hourly rate is $30 for an expected 15-20 hours per week.
- This is a hybrid position with most work done remotely or off-site. The Communications Assistant is expected to attend a weekly staff meeting in our Montclair office and occasional off-hours events as needed.
