College Outreach Coordinator

Position Title: College Outreach Coordinator

Classification: RSSSA; 12-month

Reports To: Supervisor of College and Career Readiness

Position Goal: The College Outreach Coordinator connects with students to provide them with information, resources, and assistance to make informed decisions about their post-secondary education. This role requires a strong understanding of higher education, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping students achieve their academic and career goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the area of education, counseling, or a related field. Masters Degree preferred
  • Five years experience in a college admission office or at a school with a strong college counseling program preferred

Prerequisite Skills

  • Strong knowledge of entrance requirements and retention programs at post-secondary institutions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn and implement college and career software.
  • Strong knowledge of career pathways.
  • Ability to work with all types of students.
  • Ability to develop working, collaborative relationships with post-secondary representatives.
  • Experience and expertise in office technologies, such as Google and Microsoft applications.
  • Broad computer/data entry skills evidencing ability to learn new technology quickly, as well as superior quality, quantity, and accuracy in work product.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at one time.
  • Skilled at creating databases.
  • Ability to plan and implement workshops and engagement events for students, families and community.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately using a variety of platforms.

Essential Functions: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Establish relationships and maintain a contact list with representatives from post-secondary institutions.
  • Create a database to include all graduating seniors and acceptance into post-secondary institutions.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling to students who intend to pursue post secondary education, assisting them in exploring and understanding various college and career options.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Reading High School (RHS) graduates who require support navigating post secondary education beyond graduation, if necessary.
  • Serve as liaison between RHS counseling office, RHS College and Career Center, and post secondary institutions.
  • Assist Career Center staff with the creation and maintenance of reports related to post-secondary placement, acceptance rates, and scholarship awards including collection of evidence towards Act 158 graduation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of student contact information, as well as matriculation in their post secondary programs, tracking progress and outcomes to the extent possible.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, admissions representatives and community organizations to promote post-secondary awareness and readiness.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with admissions representatives to stay informed about admission requirements and processes.
  • Prepare reports as requested by administration
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of informational sessions, workshops, and presentations on post-secondary admissions, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Assist with the facilitation of college fairs and campus visits to expose students to a diverse range of educational institutions.
  • Assist students in the post-secondary application process, including researching and recommending suitable post-secondary institutions, preparing application materials, and navigating online application systems.
  • Provide guidance on writing personal statements, resumes, and other application components.
  • Educate students and families on financial aid options, scholarship opportunities, and the application process for grants and loans.
  • Assist students in completing financial aid forms and understanding the cost of attending post-secondary education.
  • Establish and maintain membership and participation in professional organizations connected to the admissions process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration.

Terms Of Employment: Full-time (12-month) position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan.
