Title: Cognos Reporting Analyst

Location: Remote

We're seeking candidates with the following qualifications to join our team:

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Cognos reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to meet business requirements and support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements, understand data needs, and translate business requirements into technical specifications for Cognos reports and dashboards.
  • Design and implement complex Cognos reports and data models using report studio, query studio, and framework manager, leveraging SQL queries, dimensional data modeling techniques, and best practices.
  • Perform data analysis and validation to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data within Cognos reports and dashboards, troubleshoot data quality issues, and implement data quality rules and validations.
  • Optimize Cognos report performance, reliability, and scalability by tuning report queries, optimizing report design, and leveraging caching, aggregation, and other performance optimization techniques.
  • Develop and maintain Cognos report documentation, including report specifications, data mappings, and technical documentation, to support report design, development, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with database administrators, system administrators, and other IT teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and security of Cognos environments, including installation, configuration, and patching of Cognos components.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Cognos reports and dashboards, identify and resolve performance issues, errors, and data discrepancies, and provide timely support and resolution to production incidents.
  • Stay current with Cognos features, updates, and best practices, and leverage new capabilities to enhance reporting solutions and improve overall system performance and user experience.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of reporting practices and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Cognos Reporting Analyst or Business Intelligence Developer, with at least 3-5 years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining Cognos reports and dashboards.
  • Strong proficiency in IBM Cognos BI suite, including Cognos Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager, and Cognos Administration, with the ability to design and implement complex reports and data models.
  • In-depth understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional data modeling, and SQL querying techniques, with the ability to write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from relational databases.
  • Experience working with diverse data sources and formats, including relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL), flat files (CSV, Excel), and data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices, report design principles, and user interface design concepts, with the ability to create intuitive and interactive dashboards and visualizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data requirements, troubleshoot issues, and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, gather requirements from business stakeholders, and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a passion for learning and staying current with emerging technologies, tools, and trends in business intelligence and reporting.
  • IBM Cognos certification(s) are a plus.
  • Experience with other business intelligence and reporting tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or MicroStrategy, is desirable.
  • Experience with cloud-based reporting platforms, such as IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud, AWS QuickSight, or Google Data Studio, is a plus.
