Cloud Architect

Duties: You will be responsible for: (1) Acting as a Google Cloud architect for DATA (as an employee and member of the corporate IT department) reporting to the IT Chief Data Officer; (2) Leading the planning and execution of cloud migration projects, ensuring a smooth and effective transition to the new corporate IT infrastructure as it relates to DATA; (3) Working as a corporate IT employee and liaison to the vendor community with full accountability and oversight of Google cloud migration, infrastructure, internal support, production, etc. as it relates to DATA; (4) Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, identify technical solutions, and develop comprehensive cloud architecture designs for DATA; (5) Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of the cloud infrastructure, identifying and addressing any potential issues or bottlenecks; (6) Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to the cloud infrastructure, providing timely and effective solutions; (7) Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in Google Cloud technologies and providing recommendations on how to incorporate them into the existing infrastructure; (8) Developing and maintaining documentation, including architecture diagrams, procedures, and best practices, to ensure the smooth operation of the cloud infrastructure; (9) Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback and continuously improve the cloud infrastructure to meet business needs; (10) Implementing security measures and protocols to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the organizations data and systems; (11) Designing and implementing, alongside the Google cloud vendor teams, a robust and scalable cloud infrastructure using Google Cloud technologies; (12) Mentoring and training team members on Google Cloud technologies and best practices, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

Required:

A 4-year undergraduate degree is highly preferred.

Must have at least 10 years of IT industry experience with a strong preference for history as a corporate IT employee rather than career consultants, vendor staff, independent contractors, or freelance consultants.

Must have at least 4 years of experience as an employee (non-consultant, non-vendor) of a corporate IT department acting as a Google/GCP cloud architect for DATA with strong design and architecture skills implementing Google Cloud/GCP technologies and infrastructure with oversight responsibility for the Google Cloud/GCP technologies and infrastructure vendor performance and initiative.

Must have expert level skills with all things GCP (Google Cloud Platform) as the main or primary Subject Matter Expert in a corporate IT department with a focus on DATA to include ingestion, processing and presentation of data and the associated monitoring, logging, audit trails, deployments, network, and governance.

Must have expert level skills in GCP for DATA design and architecture from the ground up. Must have in-depth knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform from a data, infrastructure, and security perspective. Must deeply understand high volume data flows and how to keep them secure, performant, observable, and auditable.

Must have significant experience with Terraform by HashiCorp for IaC for setup and ongoing changes and must have strength in with CI/CD pipelines and setting them up for data ingestion, transformation and scheduling to include robust integration and unit testing as applicable.

Must have strong hands-on expertise with SQL, Python, PySpark, Cloud shell, Dataproc/Spark, BigQuery, Cloud Composer (e.g. Airflow)

Must have at least 4 years of experience as a non-consultant, non-vendor employee and as a corporate IT department employee with dual direct technical experience and leadership experience focused on Google cloud technology and infrastructure migration/implementation.

Must have hands-on technical acumen with Google Cloud infrastructure and technologies including Google cloud architecture, Google data engineering, GCP solutions architecture, Azure solutions architecture, GCP services like DataProc, Dataflow, Cloud Bigtable, BigQuery, etc.

Must have strong skill in GCP Architecture focusing on data, IaC, automation, networking, security, observability, disaster recovery and auditability.
