POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) in the Center for Sport at Tulane University is a clinical care and research center for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Physiological conditions, and Behavioral Health (BH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. The primary focus of the TUCBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty, with special consideration for those who were separated with "Other Than Honorable" or "Dishonorable" discharge status due to TBI or BH conditions.
The TUCBH also serves civilian adults who have sustained mild to moderate TBI and are experiencing ongoing neurological problems and cognitive, physical, and behavioral conditions. The TUCBH provides interdisciplinary care for adults experiencing persistent effects of TBI. This includes comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment and an Intensive Outpatient Program that integrates conventional medicine with complementary and alternative treatment modalities.
Position Summary:
Tulane University Center for Brain Health's (TUCBH) Clinical Therapist will work within a comprehensive interdisciplinary medical team to assess patient care needs. The position will provide behavioral health (BH) assessments to identify patients' level of psychological function and treatment planning needs. The therapist will provide education and trauma counseling addressing a wide range of behavioral and social needs of patients.
The therapist must have knowledge of human development and psychological theory as it relates to traumatic brain injuries, PTS, human behavior, and addiction. The individual should have an understanding of traumatic brain injuries and their impact on physical and psychological states and relationships, and should possess relationship-building skills across a diverse range of cultural settings. The position must demonstrate knowledge of and have direct experience in neurotrauma, pain management, sleep health, and rehabilitation services, philosophy, and practice.
