Overview

The Clinical Applications Manager is responsible for key duties and primary functions within the role. This includes offering logistical support in system evaluation, implementation, analysis, end-user education, and ongoing assistance. The role emphasizes fostering teamwork among colleagues and clinical departments and maintaining a structured liaison program with clinical leadership. The manager handles both routine and complex problems, prioritizes multiple tasks, and interprets various instructions, whether written or oral. They must adhere to established project management, change management, and escalation procedures while demonstrating and maintaining expertise and judgment specific to the industry.


Essential Functions/Performance Expectations

  • Lead and manage a technical team of clinical application specialists and clinical informaticists, including training, evaluations, and job assignments.
  • Oversee application implementations, upgrades, and ongoing support, including project management and scheduling.
  • Allocate and schedule staff to support various Health Information Systems (HIS) software applications within the organization.
  • Stay updated on trends and advancements in HIS software applications, including clinical and decision support.
  • Stay informed about compliance legislation for clinical information systems, such as MIPS, MACRA, and Meaningful Use.
  • Provide logistical support for all clinical HIS software, including procurement, licensing, and maintenance (excluding standard desktop applications like Microsoft Office).
  • Take primary responsibility for evaluating, acquiring, and implementing new HIS applications.
  • Coordinate resources for periodic upgrades of production HIS applications.
  • Ensure adequate training resources are available for HIS applications and that appropriate training for hospital and medical staff is completed.
  • Participate in departmental change management documentation and approval processes.
  • Partner with clinical leadership to align clinical and HIS standards with departmental workflow, processes, and policies, including a formalized meeting schedule.
  • Measure the efficacy and efficiency of post-implementation processes.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required.
  • Masters degree highly preferred.
  • Experience in Healthcare Informatics or equivalent clinical knowledge and/or licensure may be considered.
  • Previous experience managing a variety of health information systems in an acute care hospital environment.
  • Industry-specific associate-level or professional-level certification desired.
  • Demonstrated skillset in multiple relevant technologies/applications required.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills required.
