Qualifications

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general direction, responsible for various security functions on the premises of DFW Airport at specified posts as determined by Department of Public Safety (DPS) management. Assigned posts may include but are not limited to Air Operations Area (AOA) gates, DFW Airport's terminals, office buildings, traffic management, and compliance activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to inspecting all vehicles attempting to enter through AOA gates and ensuring that vehicles possess a valid DFW Airport issued access media AOA decal and that vehicle operators occupants possess a valid DFW Airport issued AOA badge, performing terminal and perimeter security patrols, issuing visitors clearance to enter a DFW office building, traffic management, regulatory compliance, and general counter-terrorism activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Inspects all vehicles attempting to enter through AOA gates, ensuring that each vehicle possesses a valid DFW Airport-issued AOA decal and that all individuals possess a current/valid DFW International Airport Board Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge; inspects cab area of vehicles; and inspects vehicles underneath and in additional areas as necessary and appropriate.
  • Perform terminal security patrols of areas including but not limited to sterile areas, employee portals, Skylink stations, baggage claim areas, parking garages, curbside and terminal ramp areas.
  • Perform roving security patrols of areas including but not limited to AOA fence line and gates, cargo and hangar areas, airport Board buildings, and critical infrastructure sites.
  • Identify and report security violations.
  • Composes reports as deemed necessary and appropriate by DPS management.
  • Ensures that food service vehicles are locked and/or sealed or inspected.
  • Ensures that no pedestrian traffic enters the AOA.
  • Ensures visitors to DFW Airport office buildings are authorized to be in the building.
  • Notifies DPS management of any attempts to enter the AOA, terminal sterile areas, office buildings, or any other assigned area of surveillance without proper authorization or of any suspicious circumstances that may affect the security of the Airport premises.
  • Directs persons lost, distressed or incapacitated to the appropriate department or personnel for assistance.
  • Coordinates with Police Services and other Board departments on traffic management at terminals and emergent areas throughout the airport
  • Participates in counter-terrorism activities to include surveillance, information gathering, detection, and deterrence functions.
  • Participates in ensuring regulatory compliance of airport and tenant facilities and personnel
  • Ensure security at construction sites throughout the airport environment
  • Provides a variety of additional duties within the Department of Public Safety to include staging of assets for disaster and emergency response, special events security and support, other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Citizenship of the United States of America.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
  • Has not been convicted of a Class "B" misdemeanor within the last ten years or any offense greater than a Class "B".
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to understand, speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to the Airport Board's safety, security and fire protection policies when performing assigned work on Airport property.
  • Ability to use a computer and associated programs.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records.
  • Ability to take various types of reports either by telephone or in person.
  • Ability to courteously communicate with the public by telephone or in person.
  • Ability to comprehend and understand pertinent federal, state codes and regulations.
  • Ability to receive and process information of a sensitive or confidential nature with discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to complete all mandatory training.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history background investigation and Security Threat Assessment.
  • Ability to pass a truth verification assessment.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in the military, law enforcement and/or security field.
  • Multi-lingual.

Special Requirements

  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport's Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

  • Uses far-visual acuity in judging distance of moving vehicles.
  • Exchanges information in person and over radio and telephone.
  • Drives to locations on Airport property, including the AOA.
  • Sits for extended periods of time.
  • Walks for extended periods of time.
  • Uses keyboard devices and a computer monitor.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with DPS uniform standards
