Taylor Engineering, Inc. seeks a Staff Civil/Coastal Engineer to join our Destin, Florida office. Taylor Engineering has an incredible opportunity to support our interdisciplinary waterfront, coastal, water resources, and environmental team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
We encourage candidates with interest in any or all of the duties listed below to apply. Specialization and career progression should be driven by the applicant’s interest. The duties and responsibilities listed below represent the typical work in the Destin branch office, but Taylor Engineering is interested in hiring candidates to support all facets of water-related engineering (e.g., stormwater, hydraulics, hydrology, etc.).
Analysis, design, permitting, and inspection of waterfront or marine structures such as seawalls, bulkheads, marine foundations, docks, piers, ship terminals, marinas, and boat ramps
Shore protection and coastal structure design and permitting including beach nourishment and living shoreline breakwaters
Pile foundations and geotechnical design
Coastal process analyses, inlet management, and coastal feasibility studies
Artificial reef design, permitting, and monitoring
Construction observation and administration
Preparation of technical submittals including letters, technical reports, drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents
Support environmental scientists with environmental monitoring and restoration design
Communicate with various governmental and regulatory agencies
Work alongside staff, project, and senior level engineers for a broad mentorship potential
Requirements
Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering or other applicable engineering disciplines; preferably with Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Civil or Coastal Engineering
Experience: 0 – 4 years in civil, coastal, or waterfront engineering
Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) with education requirements and commitment to pursue Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or Florida Structural Engineer (SE) licensure upon attainment of required work experience
Preferred Candidate Characteristics
Organized with the ability to multi-task
Energetic, detail-oriented, team player
Effective oral and written communication skills
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical, scientific, and abstract information; and to spot issues during review of design drawings and diagrams
Basic understanding of concrete design, steel design, timber design, and piling design
Basic understanding of the marine environment with education/coursework in wave mechanics and littoral processes
Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations using Matlab, Excel/VBA, or similar tools
Ability (or willingness to learn) to operate small vessels and UAVs (drones)
Physical Requirements
Lifting up to (35) pounds unassisted
Sitting for extended periods of time
Possesses acceptable vision (with or without corrective lenses) to be able to see and navigate a computer screen
Ability to conduct work in field and on construction sites
