Child Nutrition Helper Eastside/Lower Valley Campuses

Assume responsibilities in the food preparation and/or cashier duties as directed by the Child Nutrition Manager and/or designee. Follow and perform routine food preparation and service to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of the cafeteria operations. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the food preparation and cashier as assigned.
  • Operate large and small kitchen equipment after receiving instructions.
  • Clean and sanitize work area and kitchen equipment.
  • Serve meals on service line after receiving instructions as to portion sizes.
  • Follow assigned cleaning and maintenance schedules and campus attendance procedures.
  • Perform routine cleaning to include cleaning and sanitizing floors, work area and kitchen equipment, as assigned.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to operate equipment and perform job duties to include lifting, climbing, etc.; comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and food products.
  • Wash pots and pans and complete general clean up.
  • Unpack supplies and assist with stacking dry storage and refrigeration shelves.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, integrity, cooperation and efficient use of time in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Possess current Food Handler’s Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment with the district. Possess the ability to learn and follow prescribed preparation methods of handling food and supplies. Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions in English. Valid Texas/New Mexico driver’s license/ID card; subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Continual standing, walking, pushing and pulling; must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds frequently; moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; work under all weather conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing (ladder) and lifting.
