Chief Strategy Officer, Individual and Family Plans

Reporting to the President of Individual & Family Plans (IFP), the Strategy Senior Director role is an opportunity for a proven Strategy leader to maximize Cigna's performance by leading and overseeing Market Performance, Segment Strategy, Sales and Market Growth, and Analytics teams for IFP.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background in developing multi-year business strategies, analysis, and market management within the ACA, familiarity with government/regulated businesses and key drivers, and experience partnering with other senior leaders and matrix partners to drive results. This individual will bring the intellectual curiosity and innovative thinking to ensure the business is anticipating market developments and opportunities and constantly pushing the thinking on conventional wisdom. This role will oversee a team of Directors comprising Strategy, Market Performance as well as Market Analytics.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct thorough market analysis, identify industry trends, and evaluate competitive landscapes to create differentiation and inform strategic decision-making and guide long-term business planning.
  • Oversee identification, evaluation, and prioritization of new business opportunities, potential partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives to maximize overall value and financial viability.
  • Partner with senior-level leaders across functions and channels to shape multi-year segment level strategy, develop short and long-term visions and roadmaps, and work with business leaders to manage transition from strategy to execution for the segment.
  • Responsible to drive prioritization on research, quantitative analysis, and modeling that support our strategic plan, affordability, and cost savings initiatives.
  • Accountable for overall oversight of market activities and performance management, including expansion and strategic management.
  • Drive growth and oversee sales distribution and broker/agent strategies and experience.
  • Drive cross functional collaboration between various internal/external stakeholders (e.g. eviCore, Evernorth, Express Scripts).
  • Interact with and influence internal stakeholders at all levels of the company.
  • Lead a high-performing team skilled at building partnerships and translating business goals into strategic plans, investments, and blueprints.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 10 years of corporate strategy experience, including 7 years in leading multi-year strategic development and planning for a business unit or organization.
  • Strong understanding of the health insurance industry.
  • Expert strategist with a proven ability to bring key insights and information to collaboratively inform strategy.
  • Experience working in ACA exchange products and market-level or national P&L management strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding developing and executing innovative growth strategies across multiple markets, including success working with brokers/agents.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including trending and financial modeling.
  • Experience partnering with finance teams to drive strategic business decision making and cost containment initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of market management tactics, including MLR, contracting/network, and VBC dynamics.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership on challenging problems with examples of implementing innovative solutions, actions taken, and driving outstanding results.
  • Exceptional leadership skills – both as a direct manager and across a matrix environment.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and collaborative approach to work in highly matrixed and dynamic organization.
  • Ability to communicate insights to senior business leaders and partners in an actionable manner and delivering executive level presentations.
  • Strong influencer and collaborator, working through others, and building relationships within the organization.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to travel up to 40-50% of the time.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 177,600 - 296,000 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
