EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently licensed in the state of Indiana as an RN. Must maintain this licensure and provide any changes or renewals to Human Resources.
  • Must have a Master’s Degree in nursing or other appropriate postgraduate degree.
  • Must obtain BLS prior to providing direct patient care.
  • Possess and demonstrate good communication and customer service skills and pleasant phone technique. Must demonstrate keen reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a multi-task environment where interruptions may be frequent. Able to assess and command emergency situation and readily adapt to change.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
  • Supports this institution by following policies and procedures as set forth, participating in hospital activities, promoting good public relations, and demonstrating loyalty and pride in the organization.
  • Ability to cooperate with other members of the medical team and personnel of other departments.
  • Ability to lead and guide department managers in following government and other regulatory guidelines as well as Woodlawn Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Will demonstrate political and economic skills for the good of the organization.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

Assumes the final responsibility for the management of several departments within patient care areas. Including but not limited to:

  • Emergency Services,
  • Surgical Service including: CP, PACU, Day Surgery, Oncology
  • Med/Surg/Progressive care/PEDS
  • Birthing Center and Nursery
  • Infection Prevention/Employee Health


  • Must be familiar with Hospital Licensure Rules, Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, and demonstrate the ability to interpret and implement future regulatory requirements in clinical areas of the organization.
  • Responsible for the hiring, retention and dismissal of all employees working within areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for timely job performance evaluations including goal setting to enhance growth of the individual employee and will assure that all personnel current certifications and/or licensure.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to research, evaluate and make recommendations for capital acquisitions for the areas of responsibility.
  • Must be familiar with the basic financial mechanisms of expense and revenue accountability in a hospital-based environment.
  • Must have the ability to prepare an operational budget and plans for fiscal responsibility for each area of accountability.
  • Must manage personnel and delegate responsibilities so that the goals and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer are achieved.
  • Will have the oversight responsibility for the provision of effective high quality and safe patient care for the patient population that is served by this organization.
  • Will coordinate the development of patient care programs, policies, and procedures related to patient care needs, treatments and services.
  • Will assess and measure the nursing care, treatment and services delivered to patients through the review of performance improvement initiatives of the various nursing departments.
