Job Description

The Savas Health Chief Medical Officer, reports to the Savas Chief Executive Officer for over-all strategic and operational direction with additional reporting relationships for clinically related matters to the Savas Health President. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide clinical leadership, input, and guidance for Savas medical and quality related efforts to assist Savas in meeting its strategic priorities, goals, and performance related metrics. The position will work closely with Savas Directors and Managers, Savas UTC Practice Physicians and Advanced Practitioners and many others in the Savas Healthcare system. The position will also have the responsibility to oversee the Savas Transdisciplinary Care Franchise model development nationally. This position requires you to travel to all locations as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and quality medical guidance to the Savas Health Care organization.
  • Provide guidance on approaches to population management, quality improvement, cost reduction, risk coding and patient engagement to enable Savas Health to meet its short and long-term strategic priorities, goals and performance metrics. This shall include working with the Savas Health Leadership Team, Savas Health Physician and Advanced Practice Providers to provide guidance in development and implementation efforts to improve population health initiatives and strategies. Such work will include:
  • Provide clinical oversight, medical direction and support as needed to the Savas Health’s Care Coordination, clinical performance improvement teams.
  • Coordinate the efforts as needed of the Savas Health Physicians, Clinical and Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Provide clinical input and support to the Savas Health Analytics and Performance Improvement teams.
  • Participate as needed in Savas Health value-based contract negotiations with payers and employers.
  • Assist with payer and employer relations including but not limited to serving as the main point of contact for payer and/or employer Medical Directors.
  • Provide clinical input and support to Savas Health’s credentialing and enrollment activities including the final review of quality and efficiency metrics for physicians participating in Savas Health and overseeing the board certification and other relevant certification of physicians and Advanced Partitioners.
  • Engage and maintain relationships with Savas Health employed and Joint Venture private-practice physician leadership and other provider entity leadership. Participate in targeted recruitment of providers into the Savas Health organization to support ongoing and future expansion programs with Savas Healthcare organization.
  • Participate in the Savas Physician Group Practice Leadership Team meetings. Also, will work in a close consultative nature with Savas Joint Venture Physician Group Primary Care leadership and Savas Health Physician Group leaders on various clinical medicine and population management efforts.
  • In support of Savas Health’s mission, actively participate in research and teaching initiatives associated with population health and Clinical medicine. Such activity will include collaboration with various centers at Savas, such as the Savas University and VitaMed. www.savashealth.com 2
  • Participate in and/or facilitate, when requested, Savas Health Strategy & Operations meetings, Savas Health Board meetings, Savas Joint Venture Physician Group Population Management Leadership meetings and other Savas meetings promoting clinical and strategic efforts to advance clinical medicine and population health.
  • Participate and present at various conferences, seminars, and community events to champion the initiatives of Savas Healthcare.
  • Participate in the transformation of Savas Healthcare from a partial fee for service reimbursement model to a wholly sustainable portfolio of payment models to include value-based reimbursement.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or as directed by the Savas Healthcare CEO.
  • Adhere to applicable company policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications And Experience

  • Board Certified MD or DO is required preferably in a primary care specialty.
  • 10 years of experience in clinical practice with preference for experience in a large complex academic health system environment.
  • Management experience in an accountable care organization, clinically integrated network, independent physician association and/or physician-hospital organization preferred.
  • Experience in quality improvement methodologies especially Lean and The Model for Improvement.
  • Experience building working partnerships with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
  • Experience in population management that includes development of care management programs, use of disease registries, cost reduction and quality improvement initiatives, care management workflow, effective use of population management technology applications.
  • Familiarity with the deployment of evidence-based medicine and clinical best practices

Additional Skills

  • Acknowledged clinical leadership within specialty and system overall. Executive presence and the ability to navigate a complex medical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to negotiate and/or communicate with a wide variety of people. The ideal candidate will have a track record of driving change through influence and a successful track record of bridging relationships with academic and community based physicians.
  • Experience in communicating effectively with colleagues and building consensus with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated track record in forging partnerships cross-institutionally and the ability to promote open communication and foster trust.
  • Strong understanding of clinical quality programs and continuous quality improvement methods in the ambulatory and inpatient settings.
  • Familiarity with requirements of the Joint Commission, HRSA, NCQA and other applicable Quality and Regulatory organizations.
  • Exposure to the work necessary to advance Savas Healthcare as a business platform to work with payers and employers.
  • Solid understanding of data analytics (creation, manipulation, and interpretation) and the ability to translate strategic priorities into operational reality; align communications, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes and ongoing measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results.
