Position Details
Job Type: Full-time, Regular
Location: Hybrid, with some weekly on-site work in Boulder, CO
Compensation: $292,702 - $325,000 (Based on education, experience, and skills)

What You Will Do
As the CLO, you will:
Organizational Leadership
Oversee all legal affairs, directing outside counsel as needed to ensure efficient and cost-effective outcomes.
Anticipate and identify legal issues for senior management, developing strategies and solutions.
Report to the Board of Trustees Chair, maintaining independence and confidentiality with a high regard for ethics.
Chief Legal Counsel
Manage staff in the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and Export Compliance, including hiring, performance reviews, and staff development.
Make critical decisions regarding legal, contractual, insurance, and export issues with significant financial impacts.
Determine acceptable litigation, contractual/legal liabilities, and risks for domestic and international research programs.
Who We'd Love To Join Our Team
Successful candidates should address the following criteria in their application materials:
Education & Experience
J.D. Degree, a bachelor's degree in business, science, or a technical field
15 years of experience in corporate, business, IP, and employment law (including 5 years in a supervisory or senior management role)
Experience in an academic/research environment and government contracting is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Excellent leadership and team-building skills
Ability to work with senior management to build trust
Advanced knowledge of government contracts, ethics, regulations, and corporate contracts
Expertise in a wide variety of general business issues and legal advice
Advanced knowledge of patent, trademark, copyright laws, and export regulations
Strong communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
