Our client seeks a full-time Chief Financial Officer to oversee and direct financial, accounting, and investment activities supporting the agency’s goals and fiduciary responsibilities. As a vital member of the Executive Team, this position requires a high degree of critical thinking, decision-making, accountability, understanding of complex local and federal grant requirements, and cross-functional collaboration. In this role, the new CFO will lead the department’s transformational change, implementing new technology, interactive customer transactions, and exciting process upgrades.



Responsibilities

  • Create and present financial and tax strategy recommendations to CEO
  • Support the financial planning and analysis efforts
  • Oversee cash flow, cash management, working capital, and company audits
  • Prepare financial statements and reports
  • Ensure legal compliance on all financial functions
  • This role leads action including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Manage relationships with banks


Fiscal Management

  • Maintain internal financial control and auditing with departmental, divisional, and other administrators regarding accounting policy, procedures, interpretation, and compliance issues.
  • Consistently analyzes financial data, including efficient operations of the accounting system; presents financial reports accurately and timely; communicates agency/program budgets to actual results in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and keeps senior leadership abreast of the financial status.
  • Proactively oversee financing strategies, manage cash flow, and provide strategic forecasting.
  • Oversee the payroll function and ensure compliance with all benefits and retirement plan requirements.
  • Coordinate with the CEO and COO for annual budgeting, planning, presentations, and overall timelines through Board approval. Implement Financial Policies and Procedures to prevent waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct and promote integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Ensure internal controls and appropriate authorizations/signatures are in place for all accounting tasks and that fund accounting and approved cost allocation methods are used among grants.
  • Responsible for the closing of agency books monthly within the agency timeline.
  • Partner with the Advancement leader to identify, establish, and maintain funds and to provide other products and services needed to meet donor philanthropic goals.
  • Supports the Advancement team in developing and maintaining a calendar for fiscal grant reports and submissions, while overseeing and preparing budgets for new grants and budget modifications as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Programming team, oversee program, grant accounting, and financial reporting to funding agencies, ensuring expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; maintain electronic financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Oversee contract management to include grants, sub-recipient contracts, benefits contracts, insurance contracts, and all other contracts obligating the agency.
  • Engage program directors for internal monthly budget review and forecasting meetings.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and payable, reconcile and file grant expenditure requests, and ensure proper general ledger allocation assignments of resources and expenses.
  • Ensure adherence to federal and state laws and regulations, contractual obligations, regulatory tax filings, and audit requirements.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Serve as the leader of the Finance and Audit Committees as requested by the CEO.
  • In collaboration with the COO, maintain appropriate insurance coverage for employees and office space, and immediately notify carriers of potential claims to mitigate risk.
  • Oversee net asset accounts, unrestricted, Board-designated, and donor-restricted accurately, and in accordance with GAAP, GAS, and GAAS.
  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the agency investment accounts, serving as the primary point of contact for the financial institution.
  • Prepare and distribute agency financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to the Board of Directors & CEO, tax returns, fixed asset records, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for monthly fiscal reports
  • Ensure timely compliance and financial reporting to all agency funding partners.


Growth Strategy & Planning

  • In partnership with the Leadership team, engage in the planning and analysis related to the organization’s programs and new business opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for shared resources, including purchasing and other organizational collaboration opportunities.
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting software and department workflows.

  • Possesses finance experience to drive financial performance and organizational growth at a large nonprofit
  • Shows adept organization skills, which include being methodical, detail-oriented, efficient, and systematic in managing department-level tasks and resources
  • Meticulous and proficient in deploying, configuring, and optimizing financial software solutions with strategic planning acumen and attention to detail
  • Versatile learner; embraces new tools and creates processes and procedures in their absence as needed. Finds solutions; enjoys a challenge while creating and implementing structure


Benefits

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field or a minimum of five years of direct experience in non-profit bookkeeping and/or accounting.
