Position Description:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, TruFund Financial Services is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join the executive team of our growing nonprofit community development financial institution and manage all financial aspects, perform effective risk management, and plan the organization’s financial strategy.

The CFO must be well-versed in all aspects of financial management ranging from simple accounting to more complex accounting applications related to revenue recognition, cost allocation, ALL methodology tax credit and equity investment structures. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader since the role requires our CFO to maintain a strong financial oversight and working relations with all relative departments of the organization. The successful candidate needs to apply in-depth knowledge of non-profit financial accounting standards, risk management methods and the ability to create forecasting models.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible to

  • Provide financial management of TruFund’s operating business lines including our subsidiaries, Empowerment Reinvestment fund (New Markets Tax Credits) Tru-Capital Investment Fund, LLC, (Equity Investment Fund).
  • Effectively manage a staff of six (6) accounting professionals
  • Report on financial results and issues to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial reports for the organization, its programs, and activities
  • Forecast return on investment (ROI) /profitability for current and future business lines and programs
  • Managing accounting and reporting for government and private grants
  • Oversee and review the preparation of all programs financial reporting required for funding sources.
  • Actively manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
  • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Develop budgets for the organization, its individual programs, and new/proposed/expanded services, including the preparation of budget revisions as needed.
  • Oversee TruFund’s banking and treasury management activities and actively manage TruFunds cash position to ensure we maintain compliance with our liquidity covenants and meet organizational operational needs.
  • In conjunction with the CEO manage the negotiation and execution of contracts and credit facilities with capital providers, vendors and collaborative service providers.
  • Manage accounting control systems and internal audits enduring the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports.
  • Monitor changes in the GAAP regulatory environment and implement changes in our procedures to maintain compliance while maximizing operational and financial results.
  • Manage TruFund’s IT MSP as well as our liability insurance program, including ongoing risk analysis.

Required Skills

  • General accounting and financial reporting procedures in accordance with GAAP, and OMB Circulars A-133, A-122 & ASC 958
  • Federal and State contract/grant budgeting/reporting procedures and requirements.
  • Payroll reporting and processing of payroll taxes.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software (e.g. NetSuite) and operating system
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Expertise in NetSuite, MS Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

Education And Experience

  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university required.
  • 10-15 years of senior management experience in accounting and financial management preferably in the non-profit community development financial sector with an organization that had an operational budget of more than $10 million per year.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation required.
