Role Description

This role works closely with the Board of Directors and agency leadership to establish long-range strategic initiatives and short-term goals and oversees the organization's financial structure to ensure financial stability and sustainable funding. The CEO inspires teams to continue the pursuit to enhance service offerings while expanding access to populations that have been socially and economically marginalized. 

 

The CEO will provide leadership for all aspects of the company's operations and serves as the company's representative to the board of directors, community partners, employees, customers, government agencies and the public, and performs other related duties to promote the mission of the organization.


Specific Duties:


Programs and Staff

  • Provide leadership and direction in the coordination of all programs and services provided by Northwest Human Services with a focus on cross-program integration of clinical services,
  • Ensure that local, state and federal grant and contract requirements are fulfilled and ensure regulatory compliance regarding all agency activities.
  • Promote fiscal responsibility for the organization. Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Board of Directors and other leadership to monitor program reports and budgets to continue our legacy of financial stability.
  • Make recommendations to the Board and carry out Board policies. Keep the Board apprised of actions taken to address programmatic, political and cultural challenges as they arise. 
  • Represent the organization and collaborate on boards and committees with community partners, governmental agencies and private providers to meet the health care needs of people who live in Marion and Polk Counties.

 

The Board of Directors

  • Work with the Board Chair and nomination committee to orient new Board members and support ongoing education and leadership development of Board members.
  • Serve as a non-voting ex-officio member of the Board and Board committees.
  • Ensure regular and ongoing training is provided to the Board as appropriate.
  • Ensure staff support to the Board and Board committees, as necessary.
  • Ensure timely submission of grants, budgets, annual plans, and operating policies and procedures for Board review and approval.

 

Community

  • Develop and promote positive relationships with community partners and local medical providers.
  • Represent the organization in the community and upon select boards and committees to ensure that NWHS has an active, visible and positive public image.
  • Establish and maintain contact with the business and legislative community.


Supervisory

The CEO develops and leads a team of professionals, including hiring, mentoring and counseling leadership staff on established policies, procedures, protocols, and personnel policy guidelines. This includes supporting a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout the agency. In alignment with compliance standards, the CEO ensures the development, approval and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols that meet HRSA, Joint Commission and other state and regulatory standards and requirements. In collaboration with NWHS leadership, this role ensures consistently applied standards for training and competency certification for all agency personnel.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience, in a healthcare related field. Five years’ progressive professional growth and executive experience in an FQHC, FQHC Look-Alike, community health center or non-profit primary care setting is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with medical professionals and have experience with licensing and credentialling; Continuous Quality Improvement/Total Quality Management and risk management.
  • Public speaking, and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Fiscal knowledge and experience, including forecasting and budgeting for operating and capital expenses; negotiating capitated payment agreements, and reviewing and editing service contracts. 
  • Strong administrative skills, combined with the creativity and vision necessary to guide the agency into the future, and ability to analyze urgent situations accurately and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to relate to people of all ages from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and experience working with or serving on a board.
  • Strong writing/editing skills and experience administering grants and contracts.
