We highlight the journeys, challenges, and successes of international founders, offering valuable insights and fostering a vibrant community. Our mission is to elevate diverse voices in the tech industry and provide a platform for innovation and inspiration.
Role Overview: As the Chief Editor and co-founder of The Vertical, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the voice and vision of our publication. You will be responsible for elevating our content, sourcing and managing contributors, and defining our editorial policies. Your leadership will be crucial in driving our mission forward.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Elevation: Oversee and enhance the quality of all content published on The Vertical. Ensure that stories are compelling, well-researched, and align with our mission.
Contributor Management: Seek out and recruit talented writers, journalists, and industry experts who can contribute high-quality content. Build and maintain strong relationships with contributors.
Editorial Policy: Define and implement editorial policies and guidelines. Ensure consistency in tone, style, and quality across all content.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with other co-founders to develop and execute the publication’s strategic vision. Contribute to long-term planning and growth initiatives.
Innovation: Stay abreast of trends in journalism, startups, and immigrant communities. Introduce innovative content formats and storytelling techniques.
Community Engagement: Engage with our audience through social media, newsletters, and events. Foster a sense of community among our readers and contributors.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a journalist, editor, or similar role in a reputable publication.
Deep understanding of immigrant issues, tech entrepreneurship, and the intersections between them.
Strong editorial judgement and excellent writing and editing skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of contributors.
Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building and growing a new venture.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
