The National Association of Theatre Owners represents the hardworking owners and operators of movie theatres across the US and the world. We believe that movie theatres are places for everyone and their cultural and financial importance to their communities makes it essential that we advocate to ensure their long-term success. Our goal is to unite and promote the cinema industry so that moviegoing remains the leading out-of-home entertainment choice for current and future generations. To accomplish this feat, we need a Chief Communications Officer to develop and execute a communications strategy that effectively advocates for exhibition. If you have a demonstrated record of success in leading communications efforts in this industry, then this would be an incredible opportunity to use your skills to ensure people will always get to experience the magic of going to a movie.  

The goals of this position align with the priorities identified in the most recent NATO strategic plan. These priorities include 1.) theatrical content advocacy, 2.) government relations advocacy; 3.) moviegoing promotion; and 4.) community building. The specific objectives for the Chief Communications Officer in their first year include: 

 

  • Lead the association’s media relations, ensuring the voice of exhibition is included in relevant industry discussions and framed positively to support the membership.
  • Develop and executive a cohesive communications plan for CinemaCon, NATO’s cornerstone annual event, that increases its visibility and engagement with members, key stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Revamp internal communications processes to increase effectiveness and maximize the efforts all of team members.
  • Develop an overarching social media plan that utilizes appropriate channels to reach intended audiences.
  • Improve the quality and efficacy of NATO’s research function to create actionable reports that drive the industry forward.
  • Contribute to the overall organization’s strategic direction as a key member of the leadership team

 

The importance of our mission requires that the ideal candidate for this job will come to NATO ready to perform on day one. The skills that we feel would well position a candidate for success include: 

  • Ability to identify and articulate key messaging for the exhibition industry, both in response to current issues and proactively for issues on the horizon, and to communicate that messaging confidently and effectively to both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work seamlessly within the leadership team to bring solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to lead and delegate to a team of internal staff and external resources to achieve organizational goals. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with international partners to achieve group objectives.
  • Management ability that results in growth and development of internal staff for the benefit of both the employee and the organization. 
  • Ability to provide high level strategic insight, thought leadership and organizational vision. 
  • Well-organized and able to monitor multiple projects at the same time. 
  • Ability to develop effective budgets and allocate resources for maximum return on investment. 
  • Project management expertise that allows for both successful management of projects led by the CCO and the ability to gauge progress on projects led by others.

Location:

This position will be based out of our Los Angeles, CA office. On a daily basis, employees have the option to work from home or at the office, but all employees are required to attend certain meetings and functions in-person.
