Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer you will be responsible for the vision and strategy to bring the value of AI and ML techniques to Marqeta’s customers in innovative ways. You will build and lead the team of AI and ML experts to deliver this vision to our customers, working closely with the company's product management, engineering, and sales teams. Educate and show how these technologies can be used in many applications, increasing understanding and innovation across the company. Revolutionize the cardholder experience!

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within United States or from our Oakland, CA. We’d love for you to join us!

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with other company leaders to develop Marqeta’s strategy for AI, ML, and data science.
• Lead research, prototyping, experimentation, and production development for key initiatives and products.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including technology and business stakeholders, to define project requirements and deliverables.
• Recruit, develop, and lead a team of AI, ML, and data science experts
• Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze large, complex datasets and extract actionable insights.
• Develop predictive models, algorithms, and data-driven solutions to optimize business processes, improve process transparency, and drive strategic decision-making.
• Best practices, methodologies, and tools in data science and machine learning.
• Drive an ethical approach to the development and use of AI technologies.
• Deliver state-of-the-art AI/ML-powered product innovations to Marqeta’s customers.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• 15+ years of experience in AI, ML data science, or similar fields, such as data science and/or analytics leadership.
• 5+ years of people leadership experience.
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Operations Research, or a related field.
• Track record of creating successful products that leverage AI, machine learning, and data science solutions that create significant customer value.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and execute cross-functionally.
• Ability to take ambiguous ideas from inception to deployment.
• Experience setting and executing innovation strategies across an organization to drive research and business outcomes a plus.
• Experience working in a regulated industry is a plus.

Compensation And Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

• National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
• Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
• Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

• National: $271,000 - $361,000
• Premium: $305,000 - $406,000
• Premium Plus: $339,000 - $452,000
