Chief Accounting Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead our accounting function and ensure the integrity of our financial operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance and financial reporting. Experience in the real estate development industry is a plus.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage the accounting department, providing direction and mentorship to a team of accounting professionals.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Supervise the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including consolidation of financial results and variance analysis.
  • Manage the company’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and other senior executives to support strategic initiatives and business decisions.
  • Ensure the successful completion of external audits and manage relationships with auditors and other financial advisors.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Lead efforts to integrate accounting systems and processes during mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns.
  • Represent the company in financial discussions with investors, analysts, and other external stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing accounting teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in the real estate development industry is highly desirable.
