The College of Nursing is actively seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to join us as the Chair of the Advanced Nursing Practice and Science (ANPS) Department.

As the Department Chair, you play a pivotal role in advancing the department's mission and vision. We are seeking an accomplished and creative leader and researcher who can build upon the existing foundations of excellence within the department and drive advancements in both research and educational initiatives.

Key aspects of this role include conducting a robust program of extramurally funded research, mentoring diverse faculty and staff to foster their professional growth, and ensuring a supportive and collaborative environment. You will oversee the department's budget, resources, and academic programs.

The position is expected to be appointed at 1.0 with .50 FTE assigned to the administrative role of department chair. The remaining FTE assignment will focus on research and service. Opportunities are available for teaching in the PhD program.

Duties & Responsibilities

College / Department

  • Provide open, transparent, and regular communication with department faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders about College and university strategic goals, vision and mission.
  • Maintain department level shared governance in accordance with established College of Nursing policies.
  • Oversees recruitment, retention, and management of personnel, including workload distributions, annual performance reviews, promotions, salary decisions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains a respectful, inclusive, and productive environment between the department, the college, and the University.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to complete academic program evaluations, academic program revisions and accreditation within department, as appropriate.
  • Mentors faculty to grow external funding for programs within the department.
  • Maintains an active, externally funded program of research.

University, Campus, External Community

  • Collaborates with inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary offices and groups as needed.
  • Create visibility within and beyond the unit for unit initiatives.
  • Broker partnerships with community leaders and agencies for synergistic interface.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Nursing or related field. If earned doctorate is not in Nursing, a graduate degree in Nursing is required.
  • Distinguished record of achievement in research and service commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor.
  • Eligible for Arizona RN license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience in higher education.
  • Experience with online, in-person, and hybrid programs.
