Position Summary

The Pascagoula River Audubon Center’s (PRAC) Center Operations Manager will provide high-level operational support to a dynamic conservation action center, with strong emphases on reaching diverse community audiences and engaging local residents with environmental solutions to community issues. The Center Operations Manager will be responsible for the facilities, grounds, habitats, and most of all the visitor experience; this includes considering accessibility, storytelling methods, sense of inclusion, cultural diversity, and community financial support as core principles at PRAC. Under the supervision of the PRAC Senior Center Manager, the Manager will be responsible for efficient and smooth management of the daily operations of the center and continual innovation to encourage a sense of community amongst all visitors.

Regular duties will include supervising frontline staff and volunteers, maintaining the center gift shop, contracting for facilities and grounds maintenance and improvements, assisting with vendor paperwork for programs and special events, managing the center’s finances and balancing budgets, contributing to the overall conservation impact plan, and supervising and enforcing rental protocols.

This is an on-site, full-time, 40 hours a week position located at PRAC with occasional work off-site being granted.

Compensation

$55,000-$65,000 / year

Essential Functions

  • Oversee daily and operational activities to enhance administrative systems that allow for efficient and smooth functioning operations at the center ensuring compliance with Audubon Delta and National Audubon Society (NAS) policies and procedures.
  • Supervise frontline staff and volunteers, including the Senior Center Assistant.
  • Manage all facility rentals including inquiries, contracts, and partnerships.
  • Maintain the center calendar and uphold transparent communication with all staff about who is responsible for which programs, rentals, and events.
  • In consultation with the PRAC Senior Center Manager, develop and manage an annual budget and track all revenues and expenditures.
  • Obtain revenue and pay invoices by verifying and completing payable and receivable transactions; establish and maintain effective and accurate financial controls and accounting systems and ensure compliance with Audubon Delta and NAS financial policies and procedures.
  • Manage all facility contracts in compliance with Audubon policy; serve as primary contact for vendors, independent contractors, and building management; help finalize agreements in accordance with NAS policies.
  • Assist with the development of exhibits and interpretive materials to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Work closely with Senior Center Manager and national finance staff to manage facility budget and support monthly close requirements.
  • Work closely with the Director of Strategic Operations to ensure all People and Culture processes run smoothly, such as onboarding new staff and transitions with departing staff.
  • Manage POS, Ticketure, alarm and phone system information systems, equipment replacement, staff training, etc.
  • Support the Senior Center Manager in coordinating logistics and support preparation for advisory board meetings.
  • In collaboration with Audubon Delta communications staff, support marketing of revenue earning programs, rentals, and special events.
  • Foster positive relationships with schools, businesses, and other community, cultural or government institutions and attend relevant meetings; serve as an ambassador throughout the community, including at conferences, meetings, advisory boards, festivals, and other events.
  • Participate in Audubon’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) through staff training, hiring initiatives, and adhering to the organization’s EDIB principles.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the conservation initiatives at PRAC and throughout coastal Mississippi.
  • Works closely with Senior Center Manager and Director of Strategic Operations with grant reporting calendar and assists with proposal submissions, reports, and funder correspondence as needed.
  • Provide programmatic support as requested, including event and program logistics, preparation, teaching alternate and follow-up.
  • Other duties as requested.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of 5 years of project and facility management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum one year of experience managing and mentoring staff and/or volunteers and fostering a supportive and effective team environment.
  • Experience in a retail setting for minimum 1 year.
  • Working knowledge and experience of center or similar facility management.
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance and equipment; experience with habitat restoration a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational ability, attention to detail and a can-do attitude are essential.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to track and move tasks/projects to completion in a fast-paced environment, especially of multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a small team.

  • Must be able to accompany/lead/supervise participants and contractors over varied terrain in often hot and humid weather among insects and animals.
  • Able to load/unload/haul equipment and program materials over short distances, with or without accommodation.
  • Bookkeeping, budgeting, and contract preparation experience.
  • Knowledge of conservation concerns and practices in Coastal Mississippi, and commitment to learning the environmental history of the Pascagoula River watershed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with donor management systems and specifically Salesforce a plus.
  • Experience working with donors and development processes a plus.
  • Must be available for occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work. Occasional out-of-state travel required.
  • Must have own vehicle and valid U.S. driver’s license for operating an Audubon vehicle.
