Senior Director Of Career Development

The Senior Director of Career Development oversees all aspects of placement, facilitates career opportunities, and champions corporate relations in the Graduate School of Management. This key leadership position creates an extensive program of engagement between the School and external constituencies to develop internship, career and other opportunities, prepares students for competitive MBA as well as masters-level positions, and encourages employers to hire UC Davis GSM graduates. We are seeking a visionary, innovative, and highly collaborative leader with the ability to develop staff, purposefully facilitate strategic outreach, shape organizational development, and prioritize a wide array of projects. The Senior Director serves as a member of the School of Management student affairs leadership team, and has additional student affairs and corporate relations responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s or other graduate degree in business, economics, international relations, HR, organizational behavior, counseling, STEM or other related majors.
  • Seven plus years of increasingly responsible experience, including staff management responsibilities, leading successful career development or recruiting teams in higher education or within a large complex institution.
  • Dynamic communicator with experience presenting to large groups of individuals, and connecting with senior corporate executives.
  • A track record of strong career development placement outcomes for graduating college/university students, or corporate recruiting success leveraging nuanced knowledge of the career development profession and of issues and methods of placement in a business school or corporate setting.
  • Strong leadership, management, analytical and planning skills. Adept at initiating and execute complex programs and strategies and developing staff.
  • Empathic and effective leader, coach or mentor, adept at developing others.
  • Skills to effectively interact with diverse constituencies and to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff work teams, other units of the campus, and outside organizations Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a high degree of professional ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 9+ years with director-level positions leading either graduate business career development teams or corporate recruiting experience with MBA hiring responsibilities and possessing a track record of strong placement outcomes or performance against recruiting targets.
  • Advanced career counseling skills or staff development/mentorship experience equipping the selected candidate to serve as a model for staff in empathetically supporting students to maximize their professional development opportunities towards best-in-class career outcomes.
  • In depth knowledge of the corporate world and hiring needs from hiring timelines and best practices, ideal skills and attributes, and recruiting programs, timelines and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the legal and technical aspects of employment and immigration law.

The Senior Director of Career Development is a senior management position responsible for leadership in planning, implementing and managing strategies to identify, initiate, and cultivate strategic corporate relationships to achieve the goals of the

Graduate School of Management with an emphasis on strong careers outcomes. The Senior Director of Career Development serves as strategic planner, program builder, and leader for the programs and activities that are critical to the success of the Graduate School of Managements. The position requires effective interactions with diverse groups, including professional colleagues, volunteers in business and academic settings. It also requires knowledge of the legal and technical aspects of employment and immigration law. The incumbent manages a large number of corporate relationships simultaneously.

Work Environment

  • This position is fully on site and based out of Davis.
  • There is regular travel throughout the Sacramento and Bay Area to cultivate relationships with alumni and other employers and to attend events.
  • Evening and weekend engagements are part of this role, as well as intermittent out of area travel.
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for travel to employer/alumni visits and for events.
