Job Summary:

The Career Coach for Employability assists participants enrolled in the Vocational Services, Texas Workforce Commission Rehabilitative Services and Goodwill Houston’s work assessment programs. The Career Coach also supports the Design Your Success (DYS) initiative for internal team members and external workforce members. The Career Coach supports career planning, career decision-making process, including intensive career counseling, assessment, enrollment into on-the-job training, and job search assistance and retention services. It is important that this individual exercise good judgement and due diligence with care when performing duties and communicating on behalf of Goodwill of Houston. This position is responsible for and must assure that the Workforce Development Department is in total compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides intensive employment comprehensive case management and career planning services to a diverse population of program participants who are enrolled in Employability and DYS. Maintains a rolling case load per program requirements.
  • Reviews assessments of participant employment and training needs, and individualized employment plan to better guide their co-enrollment in Employability.
  • Monitors and evaluates participant progress through individualized employment plan; provides guidance and coaching to help participant resolve issues and remain motivated to obtain and maintain credentials and employment.
  • Provides onsite coaching and oversite during work experience activities at designated employer location
  • Maintains relationships with and makes appropriate referrals to other agencies who can assist participant with supportive services designed to mitigate barriers and enhance employability.
  • Works with Job Connection Center to prepare job seekers for employment, including resume preparation, interviewing skills, and workplace etiquette. Conducts employment readiness workshops and provides one‐on‐one coaching to enrolled Employability participants.
  • Ensures participant understands and conforms to program policies and expectations.
  • Provides job development assistance working collaboratively with Job Connection Centers and Business Services team to match participants to appropriate jobs.
  • Supports participant in job retention. Assists with reasonable accommodation process for team members and Employability participants.
  • Conducts real time data entry, inputting necessary information into Caseworthy data management system, maintains electronic and hard copy confidential files, documents participant progress, prepares progress reports, case notes, and completes and retention employment documentation.
  • Travel to multiple sites and locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of workforce development, career services, and/or human services experience
  • Computer skills – proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
  • Resourceful, detail oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of Individual Employment Plan, Case Management and Career Service activities.
  • Ability to analyze problems and opportunities, identify and evaluate alternatives, and develop sound, effective approaches to address those issues.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate the achievement of goals, objectives and work-plans.
  • Ability to coordinate, motivate and work well with others; experience in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a working knowledge of grammar usage, letter writing skills and proofreading.
  • Must be able to set goals and complete duties and assignments under strict deadlines
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Enthusiasm for organization’s mission.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a larger team.


Critical Performance Factors:

  • Meet or exceed all program goals for the (calendar/fiscal) year.
    • 100 career assessments completed
    • 50 individuals enrolled and receiving services
    • 65% placement rate for those completed training
  • Ensure data utilization and accuracy of 90 percent or higher by conducting regular audits of Caseworthy reporting.
  • Ensure all data reports, funding applications and administrative documents are reviewed prior to submission for leadership level approval.
  • Execution of WFD projects as assigned
