Let’s talk about the role!
The CAD Technician plays a vital role in the mechanical engineering team, supporting product design and development through the creation of detailed CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks software. This position involves collaborating closely with engineers and designers to translate conceptual ideas into precise 3D models and 2D drawings, contributing to the development of innovative and high-quality mechanical designs.
Essential Functions
Create detailed 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks software, based on design specifications and project requirements.
Generate accurate 2D technical drawings, including part drawings, assembly drawings, and fabrication drawings, to communicate design intent and manufacturing requirements.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers and designers to review and refine design concepts, incorporating feedback and making revisions as necessary.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, company guidelines, and best practices for CAD modeling and drafting, maintaining consistency and accuracy in all deliverables.
Support design iteration and optimization efforts by producing design variations, conducting feasibility studies, and performing design validations using SolidWorks simulation tools.
Assist in creating and maintaining CAD libraries and standards, including part libraries, templates, and drawing formats, to streamline design processes and improve efficiency.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement, to facilitate the transition from design to production and ensure seamless integration of CAD data into downstream processes.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in CAD technology and techniques, continuously enhancing skills and knowledge to improve productivity and effectiveness.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide technical support and assistance to other team members, including training and mentoring junior CAD operators or interns.
Participate in design review meetings, contributing insights and recommendations to enhance design quality and performance.
Assist in the preparation of design documentation, reports, and presentations for internal reviews and external communications.
Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to exchange CAD data and facilitate design collaboration as needed.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills For Success
Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in mechanical engineering, drafting, or a related field.
Proficiency in SolidWorks software, with demonstrated experience in 3D modeling and drafting.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design fundamentals.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in CAD modeling and drafting work.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
Team player with a collaborative mindset, able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Prior experience in a similar role or industry is advantageous but not required.'
