Job Description

Job Summary:

Reports directly to and works under the supervision of the General Manager. The job of Buyer is done for the purpose/s of controlling inventory and purchasing raw materials and services for the following departments: production, shipping, warehouse, engineering and office as well as responding to related inquiries and maintaining vendor/source information.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate and attend weekly meetings with the General Manager
• Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing needs of specific production items
• Research market trends and research potential vendors, evaluate offers and negotiate pricing with vendors while maintaining strong relationships with current vendors
• Track orders and follow up to confirm orders and ensure timely delivery
• Update internal databases with order details (dates, vendors, quantities, discounts) and contracts
• Liaise with receiving staff to ensure all products arrive in good condition
• Liaise with plant and warehouse staff to review inventory levels
• Review and update all contracts, ensuring they are up to date
• Develop an active process for measuring supply inventory and determining purchasing needs based on weekly reports
• Purchase all services needed for all facilities, inclusive of equipment service
• Supervision and development of assigned staff including Purchasing Assistant
• Handle all box/carton inventory, compostable, facilities, machine equipment, engineer requests, and special projects
• Oversee Raw Material/ Inventory Maintenance Purchasing, especially late/problems
• Supervision and development of assigned staff including Purchasing Assistant Maintenance Purchasing
• Work with Maintenance Supervisors on special requests and on parts that have long lead times and/or availability issues
• Ensure the inventory report is pulled from Fast Trak and parts ordered as needed
• Ensure that Maintenance Parts Purchasing enter work orders with fabrication for items that need to be repaired and handle all returns
• Ensure counts to be done for frequently used parts and Fast Trak inventory to be updated to match actual inventory numbers
• Ensure the set-up of a tracking system for all special items that have long lead times or have availability issues
• Improve Maintenance Purchasing backlogs tracking
• Cost savings – expensive vendors like McMaster, Grainger, Uline
• Material handling savings
• Complete any tasks as assigned
  
  

Requirements

• BS preferred but minimum 3 years purchasing experience
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Strong math skills
• Strong grasp of supply management
• Able to create and administer a task priority list based on company needs
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel
• Knowledge of market research
• Solid organizational skills
• Hands-on experience with ERP and MRP systems
