Business Development Specialist

Carrier Johnson + Culture is an award-winning architecture and design firm with offices in San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle and Atlanta. We specialize in workplace, multifamily, mixed-use, affordable housing, public, higher education, hospitality, and commercial projects. Founded in 1977, we pursue a multi-disciplinary, culture-focused design approach with all of our clients and projects.


Overview:

The Business Development Specialist plays a critical role in driving growth and expanding the client base for Carrier Johnson + Culture. They are responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential clients, and collaborating with internal teams to develop winning proposals. Prior experience in the A&D industry is a prerequisite for this role, as it ensures the candidate can effectively leverage industry knowledge and relationships to help drive business growth and expand our client base. We are seeking a talented individual to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role offers the flexibility of remote work combined with the opportunity for in-office collaboration. Eligible candidates must be located near one of our following offices: San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, or Atlanta.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Research: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients, industry trends, and competitive landscape. Utilize various resources such as industry publications, online databases, and networking events to gather relevant information.
  • Lead Generation: Develop and implement strategies to generate leads and expand the firm's client base. This includes identifying and qualifying potential clients, initiating contact, and nurturing relationships to convert leads into opportunities.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients. Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, feedback, and concerns. Regularly engage with clients to understand their needs and preferences and ensure that the firm delivers exceptional service.
  • Proposal Development: Collaborate with internal teams, including architects, designers, and project managers, to develop compelling proposals and presentations for prospective clients. Ensure that proposals are tailored to each client's specific requirements and effectively communicate the firm's capabilities and value proposition.
  • Networking and Business Development Events: Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to promote brand awareness and establish connections with potential clients and partners. Proactively seek out opportunities to participate in relevant events and activities that align with the firm's strategic objectives.
  • Sales Pipeline Management: Maintain a comprehensive database of leads, opportunities, and client interactions using CRM software. Track the progress of leads through the sales pipeline, update status reports regularly, and provide accurate forecasts to management.
  • Collaboration with Marketing Team: Work closely with the marketing team to develop targeted marketing campaigns, collateral materials, and digital content that support business development efforts. Provide input on messaging, positioning, and promotional activities to ensure alignment with strategic goals.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Architecture, or related field.
  • Proven experience in business development, sales, or marketing, preferably within the architecture and design industry.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design principles, construction processes, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish credibility with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven with a passion for driving growth and achieving targets.


Reporting Structure:

The Business Development Specialist will report to the senior member of the marketing team. They will collaborate closely with colleagues across various departments, including design, marketing, and project management, to achieve common objectives and deliver exceptional client experiences.

  • Number of qualified leads generated.
  • Conversion rate of leads to opportunities.
  • Value and volume of new business secured.
  • Client satisfaction ratings and feedback.
  • Achievement of individual and team sales targets.
  • Contribution to overall revenue growth and market expansion.


Additional Considerations:

  • The Business Development Specialist may be required to travel occasionally for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be necessary to accommodate client schedules and deadlines.
