Job Title: Business Development Manager - Custom Thermoforming Packaging

Location: Remote - All over USA

Travel Required: Up to 40% of the time

Job Description

Sonoco Alloyd designs, manufactures, and sells custom packaging for Retail, Health Care, and Food markets, primarily focusing on custom thermoforming of trays, clamshells, and blisters along with graphics cards and industry-leading heat-seal equipment. Reporting to the Sales Director, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for Sales Prospecting and Business Development to improve market share and profitability.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Actively seek new business opportunities resulting in profitable growth through marketing leads, cold calls, and other sources.
  • Identify opportunities and conduct market analysis within the territory.
  • Analyze customer and market needs, pricing models, and manufacturing input.
  • Prospect and follow leads rigorously to develop and secure new business.
  • Prepare and deliver product demonstrations and technical presentations.
  • Participate in trade show activities.
  • Develop key relationships at all levels with existing customers and prospects.
  • Manage customer projects to ensure needs are understood and met, including product development activities, plant trials, and customer requests.
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, customer service, operations, and other internal functions.
  • Develop and implement account and territory plans to increase sales with a range of customer decision-makers.
  • Manage all administrative aspects of the sales role, including quoting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Develop and maintain an updated and accurate sales funnel through CRM.
  • Develop and maintain a Margin Improvement funnel.
  • Optimize interaction with customers and manage travel within budget.

Qualifications And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the packaging industry, particularly in custom thermoforming of trays, clamshells, and blister packaging.
  • Proven track record of securing new customers while expanding share within existing customers.
  • Ability to implement value-based comparative selling strategies.
  • Experience developing product and price positioning strategies to drive growth while maximizing profitability.
  • Demonstrated experience developing corporate-level relationships and building support within purchasing, sales & marketing, and manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand and address profit levers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Frequent travel required.
