POSITION SUMMARY:

Seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Consultant to lead our efforts in expanding our business in the federal government contracting space. The role encompasses a mix of business development and capture management, and it requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of success in the federal sector aimed primarily at the Department of Defense.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field required; master's preferred. Minimum of 5 years of BD/Capture experience. Exceptional relationship management and marketing skills, resourceful, and the ability to build and grow connections. Knowledge of military procurement procedures preferred. Strong communication and leadership skills, willing to travel up to 50%.

The Ideal candidate will have an established professional network both in and out of government, a good understanding of the SBA's 8(a) business development program, SBA certifications, the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), experience using the federal government procurement system (SAM.gov) and public databases, and experience utilizing customer relationship management software. 


JOB DUTIES:

  • Become familiar with and make ongoing recommendations to expand upon company capabilities, including but not limited to participation in federal government contracting.
  • Originate and lead efforts to capture targeted government contracts either as a prime or subcontractor.
  • Drive continuous increase in Distinction wallet share of customer spend for each contracting government agency.
  • Participate in the overall capture business processes, including teaming strategies, proposal win strategies, and bid decisions.
  • Develop personal relationships and leverage company executive relationships with federal agency decision makers to understand their mission objectives, challenges, and procurement processes.
  • Conduct high-level industry research and analysis of market trends for existing and potential business lines to identify opportunities for market entry and expansion. Anticipate market trends, develop strategies to capture new business opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee a strategic business plan that expands business capabilities, prioritizes growth, and includes short and long-term goals, benchmarks, and associated activities to achieve the company's financial objectives. 
  • Update strategic plan and financial outlook annually with quarterly updates presented to corporate team.
  • Support procurement efforts by responding to requests for proposal (RFPs), sources sought notices, and seeking sole source award opportunities, developing winning teaming and proposal strategies that speak to the client's needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Use customer and market intelligence to formulate capture strategy, craft proposal content, prepare proposal documents, facilitate brainstorm sessions with partners and corporate assets, and oversee delivery of proposal elements ensuring proposal submissions are compliant and responsive.
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with clients and promote the company to prospective clients.
  • Create and maintain a pipeline of prospective clients, maintaining a database of prospective client information, contact history, and outcomes.
  • Participate in and facilitate collaborative business meetings with company executives and other key stakeholders.
  • Understand the customer's business, spending goals, and changing priorities to assist in placing the company in a position of strength for future projects and have the knowledge to improve profitability.
  • Take a leadership role providing input regarding decisions on how best to capitalize on significant opportunities and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Continually develop and improve knowledge base to stay abreast of new developments through contacts with professional organizations, government entities, and customers to leverage them for the sustainability of company growth objectives.
  • Represent the company at government and industry networking events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
