Position Requirements

The role of the Broadcast Video Director is crucial for the successful execution of live broadcasts. The Broadcast Video Director is responsible for bringing the creative vision of a broadcast to life. They ensure that all visual and audio elements align with the intended narrative and aesthetic, maintaining a cohesive and engaging viewer experience. The Broadcast Video Director is indispensable for the successful production of live broadcasts, combining creative vision, technical skill, real-time problem-solving, team leadership, and quality control to deliver compelling and seamless content to audiences.

HANDS (Responsibilities + Duties)

  • Lead and develop a camera crew team.
  • Ability to recruit, develop and train a volunteer video team.
  • Effective direct talent and volunteers during events and services.
  • Coordinate with camera crew, art directors, costume designers, and musical composers to ensure consistent creative execution of any live event and service.
  • Ability to storyboard, build shot lists for live events and services.
  • Knowledge of video and audio software to ensure excellence of video quality.
  • Adobe Suite proficiency.
  • Make real-time decisions to adapt to changing circumstances, such as adjusting shots, handling unexpected events, and managing timing.
  • Maintain the pacing and flow of the broadcast, ensuring smooth transitions and keeping the audience engaged.
  • Communicate with on-air talent to guide their performance, provide cues, and ensure they are aware of any changes.
  • Control the live feed by switching between different camera angles and shots, managing graphics, and integrating other visual elements.
  • Quickly troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during the live broadcast.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to the crew, ensuring alignment and effective task execution
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Coordinate with technical teams to arrange and set up necessary equipment, including cameras, lighting, sound, and graphics.
  • Collaborate with producers, writers, and clients to develop and refine the concept and objectives for live broadcasts
  • Review recorded footage to evaluate the success of the broadcast and identify areas for improvement
  • Provide constructive feedback to the crew and talent to enhance future live broadcasts
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects preferred, but not required.
  • Collaborating with the video engineer to ensure proper white balance

Head (Knowledge + Training)

  • REQUIRED: 5 to 10 years of Broadcast Video experience
  • Experience directing smaller live productions or segments to build skills in managing live broadcasts and making quick decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with broadcast equipment, such as cameras, switchers, video servers, and communication systems.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and coordinate a production crew under high-pressure situations.
  • Deep understanding of broadcast technology and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly.
  • Confidence and motivational skills.
  • Ability to make quick, effective decisions during live broadcasts to ensure smooth operation and high-quality output.
  • Ability to work systematically while managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a calming manner.
  • Creative vision to plan and execute visually engaging broadcasts that align with the production’s goals.
  • Staying updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in live broadcasting.
  • Keen eye for detail to maintain visual quality and consistency throughout the broadcast.
  • Ability to develop teams and empower other leaders.
  • Self-awareness to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Proficient computer skills with Apple, Microsoft, and Google products and the ability to learn TC-used databases and technologies
