CUMULUS MEDIA | Tri-Cities is looking for a Broadcast IT Chief Engineer.
Tucked in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of northeastern Tennessee is the Tri-Cities 5 radio stations cluster 101.5 WQUT Classic Rock, 104.9 WKOS Nash Icon Country, 640 WXSM Sports Monster, 910 WJCW News Talk, and 1320 WGOC Business Talk Radio. For us the broadcast business is about serving our communities, listeners, employees, and our advertisers. We are looking for a radio engineer with a successful track record and who is excited about the future of radio.
The Chief Engineer manages the installation, maintenance and repair of studio, transmitting and ancillary equipment to maintain competitive signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. This position includes responsibility for telecommunications, computer and networking systems.

The Chief Engineer manages the installation, maintenance and repair of studio, transmitting and ancillary equipment to maintain competitive signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. This position includes responsibility for telecommunications, computer and networking systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains station operation through preventative and corrective maintenance
- Establishes routine maintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment including documentation
- Handles the installation and maintenance of Axia consoles and AOIP audio distribution, PC or server-based audio editors, skimmer and streaming computers, transmitters, antennas, control systems, remote equipment, etc.
- Works with local management to coordinate remote broadcasts as needed
- Responsibilities include compliance with FCC rules and regulations, budgeting, properties maintenance and oversight.
- Travel to other markets or towers and stations may be required
- 24/7 on call for after hour emergencies
Job Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Interact with management and staff at all levels and ability to multi-task, handle pressures, and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations, including the public file
- Experience with satellite distribution and local affiliate audio audio routing, digital audio delivery, and EAS
- Computer literacy in applicable software packages which may include Microsoft Server/OS, Office365, Azure, BSI Automation and Web interfaced proprietary gear
- Ability to troubleshoot broadcast and business computer equipment to the component level
- Ability to work independently to troubleshoot/repair high-power AM and FM transmitting facilities
- IT skills including LAN and WAN, desktop and laptop deployment and endpoint management
- Knowledge of electrical systems, UPS, and standby generators
- Knowledge of POTs and VOIP telephone systems and
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders is required
- Associates or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent level of experience
- SBE CBRE Certification a plus
- Must possess valid state driver’s license and provide required proof of personal vehicle insurance
