The Role You’ll Contribute

Under the general supervision of the Brain Health Manager, the Brain Health Dietitian works with patients, families/caregivers, physicians, interdisciplinary team, and external agencies to develop a disease specific dietary plan for patients with neurological disorders. These patients will derive primarily from our Neuroscience Brain Health programs to include but not limited to: Neuromuscular, Neuroimmunology, Movement Disorders, Memory Disorders, Headache, and general neurology. The Brain Health Dietitian will be working closely with the Neuroscience program Medical Directors to support outpatient clinics and community support/education, in the coordination of necessary ancillary or consultative services. The Brain Health Dietitian also serves as a resource for patients, physicians, and allied health professionals, serving in the role of educator and consultant to referred patients. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Conducts initial assessment and reassessment of patient and family/caregiver's education needs and develops a specific plan of care to meet those needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient's response; evaluates overall teaching plan for effectiveness in achieving optimal established goals and optimal outcome.
  • Utilizes and coordinates resources to provide appropriate continuum of care for the patient and family/caregiver.
  • Provides dynamic one-on-one instruction and group instruction.
  • Obtains information and continuing education necessary to provide current neuro/medical nutrition therapy education.
  • Complete documentation in the patient's medical record according to department standards.
  • Provides timely and accurate responses to telephone calls from patients/family and other health professionals.
  • Understands and utilizes appropriate patient referral, scheduling, and appointment processes in the department.
  • Recommends and develops protocols and clinical pathways to ensure quality neuroscience care.
  • Demonstrates time management and organization skills for completing daily, weekly, and long-term assignments.
  • Participates in community outreach events as defined by department.
  • Provides professional expertise to other members of the neuroscience care team, nursing staff, and community.
  • Provides in-services and continuing education programs to meet identified/justified needs.
  • Adequately maintains supplies and teaching models for education program need

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

Education And Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics
  • 4 years’ experience

Education And Experience Preferred

  • Experience in neuroscience dietetics
  • Minimum of 4 years clinical experience

Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Required

  • Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Current active registered dietitian status with Commission of Dietetic Registration
  • Current active registered dietitian status in the state of Florida
