BRIC, LLC is seeking a Biologist to join our team at the Albuquerque, NM office. The Biologist would work with our Senior Biologist and Program Manager. This position will assist with a variety of natural resource field studies, including threatened/endangered species assessments, botanical surveys, wetland delineations, rangeland surveys, and avian and wildlife surveys. The position will be a mixture of field and office work depending on project type. However, it is expected that 80% of time will be related to fieldwork occurring primarily in the southwest and intermountain regions.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
Complete natural resource field surveys
Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other tools to determine exact location of project areas, habitat types, and associated fauna and flora.
Record data on GPS units using ArcGIS Collector, Field Maps and/or Survey 123 to complete data collection in the field
Safely operate 4-wheel drive vehicles to access remote locations
Organize and assist with QA/QC and analysis of field data
Assist with completion of technical reports and producing maps
Performs a broad range of tasks related to a variety of wildlife, plant, upland, and aquatic resources
Troubleshoots routine problems with oversight
Completes individual tasks of low to medium complexity or duration with supervision
In the field, may oversee a crew or work independently on defined tasks, or work under the direction of a crew lead
Performs data entry and interpretation
Applies basic knowledge of regulations or guidelines to job
Complies with the safety plan and may oversee implementation of the plan in the field
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience)
Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, forestry, or related field.
Up to one (1) year of experience completing environmental field-based work.
Ability to work long hours in rural areas and sometimes in inclement weather and rugged terrain
Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
Ability to travel up to 80% of time
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to make adjustments when appropriate to complete tasks in the most efficient and accurate manner in the field.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
Strong technical writing skills
Master’s Degree in Biology or related field
Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations
Proficient in ArcGIS
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following surveys is preferred:
Avian species identification
Plant species identification
Wetland delineations
Wildlife surveys
Special status species habitat assessment
