We are seeking a Biologist to support the development of vaccines against HERV-K envelope to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This role involves immunizing transgenic mice expressing HERV-K envelope under a neuronal promoter with vaccine compounds before clinical symptoms appear, to test the prevention capability of the vaccines.

- Animal Handling and Surgery:
- Conduct behavioral testing and perform surgery on small animal models.
- Perform behavioral assays in association with the primary research project.
- Maintain, breed, genotype, and phenotype transgenic animal colonies.
- Inspect animals daily for viability and health status.
- Handle, dissect, and euthanize animals.
- Generate transgenic and knockout cell lines using the microinjection method.
- Perform animal surgeries, including utero electroporation.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including anesthesia, injection catheters, and physiological monitoring.
- Handle experimental animals, including tail vein injections, administration of anesthesia, and monitoring of vital signs.
- Tissue Preparation and Analysis:
- Harvest and collect animal embryos, tissues, and organs.
- Perform tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques.
- Prepare frozen slices and paraffin sections, stained to demonstrate normal and abnormal structures.
- Conduct molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
- Maintain cell lines and perform basic cell culture assays.
- Perform immunohistochemistry and analyze experimental data using light and confocal microscopy.
- Conduct apoptosis assays, qPCR, Western blotting, and molecular cloning techniques.
- Data Analysis and Documentation:
- Update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
- Prepare reports and manuscripts based on experimental results.
- Assist in the preparation of data and images for research presentations and publications.
- Document all laboratory procedures, experiments, and results.
