Job Description

The starting pay range for this position begins at $16.75 - $18.25 and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements. Flex: A position working an average of 20-29 hours per week (between 1000 - 1559 hours/year).

Housekeeping Staff II will assist with maintaining an overall, immaculate appearance of all historic structures and surrounding guest facilities. Duties will consist of vacuuming; very minor maintenance work as assigned; and general care and cleaning of guest areas, items in the collections, and exhibition spaces. Staff will also perform other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor from time to time, and provide general assistance and support for the department and company.

Schedule is 6:30am to 3:00pm.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma (or GED). Relevant training or certifications in commercial cleaning or a related field preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of related experience in a janitorial, custodial, or commercial cleaning field. The ideal candidate will have had similar experience working in a historic building or setting.
  • Working knowledge of modern cleaning methods and equipment. The preferred candidate will have general knowledge of restoration, conservation and preservation methods and practices.
  • Experience working with commercial cleaning solutions and chemicals and knowledgeable about the safe application. Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MSDS).
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and providing world class service.
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Willingness to follow oral/written instructions; establish and maintain working relationship with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to act/re-act to emergency situations calmly. An independent thinker with ability to solve problems – self-motivated.
  • Team player and with a willingness to pitch in and help out wherever needed. The ideal candidate will proactively anticipate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and must be at least 18 years of age.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensure a positive guest experience by answering inquires, giving directions, and special care to guest needs. Respond to guest emergencies: sickness, uncontrollable bodily function accidents and blood borne pathogens.
  • Adhere to guidelines for historical furnishings maintenance and protection as set forth by Museum Services.
  • Dust, vacuum and maintain one entire floor per week [zone cleaning of approximately 36,750 sq. ft.] while providing support to all departments and abiding by all OSHA guidelines.
  • Vacuuming, cleaning and maintaining all private/closed areas such as: closed rooms, corridors, storage areas, rooftop, behind the scenes tour routes, and organ loft.
  • Responsible for structural cleanliness of house [day cleaning] performed on building or facilities during working hours such as (windows, chandeliers, railings, tiled walls, elevators (inside/top/underneath), organ loft pipes, porches, staircases, ceiling lights and mantels.
  • Clean and maintain sales areas, public restrooms and employee restrooms in all guest areas and occasionally residents’ homes.
  • Will train Level I staff to standard.
  • Assist maintenance with teardown, object movement, and set-up of rooms for filming, special events and annual cleaning.
  • Assist Engineering Services department as needed in different areas and jobs.
  • Vacuum, clean windows of Loggia, Loggia roof and Winter Garden roof (requires climbing scaffolding and dexterity skills).
  • Assist co-workers with various day to day operations such as maintaining cleaning supplies, etc.
  • Prevent costly accidents and promote safety and fire prevention.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity and ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate/heavy physical strength.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach overhead, kneel, and reach overhead/below, crouch..
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work exposed to dust, dirt, fluids, pollen, fluids, and noxious odors.
  • Should also be able to work indoors and outside with changes in temperature and environmental conditions.
  • Good eyesight and hearing to properly inspect, evaluate, and assess.
